Away cup match
Evening boys,
What a win on Sunday, please find below my match report/thoughts on the game.
Lads 3 wins on the spin, 3 clean sheets in a row & a step closer to silverware, what a great afternoon.
I said before the game about showing everyone how far we have come since our first game against Tonbridge & the game did not disappoint.
I felt the first half was a very even contest, it was a typical cup tie, no one wanting to make a mistake, tackles flying in, there wasn’t really any chances of note for either team, all be it the best chance probably falling to Tonbridge from a knock down from a corner but some wonderful blocks & the desire to put your body on the line as a team was so good to see, in the past few weeks the culture among you all to deny chances, space & shots in our final third has been excellent & Oscar I will say it again the impact you have had on the group has been huge.
Tonbridge had a lively left winger, physically big and quick, I felt the distances between Samuel & Hector at times were too big, it’s so important you get closer together to deny space and after we addressed this it was a lot better, Samuel I want to give you a mention, you absolutely put him in your pocket and it was a key duel we won to give us a platform to go and win the game.
At half time I spoke about how the game will be decided by a moment of brilliance or a mistake & we got that shortly after half time.
We shuffled the pack slightly with a double change at full back and rolling Leon out to the left & your wonderful pass with the outside of the right foot down the line for a perfectly timed run by Lemar, who then shrugged off the full back to deliver a cross for Bailey, but the finish itself was so creative, back to goal, to have the presence of mind to help the ball on its way over the keeper was tremendous, the skipper stepping up with a BIG moment! So pleasing to see the front 3 linking like that.
Again the second goal was outstanding, a ball you had no right to win Lemar to then burst away from the back 4 & lift the ball over the keeper was out majestic & your finishing is improving every week, keep buying into the message being sent you are flying at the moment and long may it continue.
After that it was about seeing the game out, I would have liked to have seen a little less ‘panic’ in possession, having said that it was a very hectic game both on and off the pitch and it’s important that myself and Becks keep that calm on the side as well!
We saw the game out brilliantly, players going down, Kai delaying the restart all be it you picked up a booking, these things are sometimes necessary in football to get the win over the line, the maturity in the group is growing!
Great win chaps & I’ve already spoke about Metrogas earlier in the week.
Games with huge importance, we wouldn’t want it any other way!
See you all on Thursday.
