Lads,
What a game, I myself have ONLY just calmed down, I have attached the match report below as well as the VEO for the game!
Please also take a good look at your player data accounts there is some really good bits on there!
Chaps I’m going to be brutally honest and let you all know as a group that the first half performance was totally unacceptable for the level you have set yourself in recent months!
We were absolutely all over the place, defensively the gaps were too big, too deep, no connection at ALL with the midfield we looked like a team that hadn’t been drilled as well as you have been and it really showed, upon reflection I think the stop/start momentum of games being off hasn’t helped but I also feel like that is a bit of a excuse & please rest assured we won’t be able to start like that on Sunday against Maidstone.
We gave away 3 really really sloppy goals, sandwiched between a wonderful header from you Bailey after a great ball from Leon & half time could not come soon enough so we could reshuffle the pack & get back to what we are good at.
The half time chat was simple lads, it wasn’t anything massively tactically, Defence to play 10 yards higher, close up the massive distances between units and most importantly start winning your individual duals!
David I thought you really changed things for us in the middle of the park when you come on, well done!
We made changes & they had a big impact, Noah with a neat finish to get us back into it after great work from Lemar chasing a lost cause & the equaliser after watching back a number of times looks like Theo JUST got the last touch to force it over the line after another wonderful delivery from Leon, I think around 70% of our goals have come from set pieces this season & long may it continue!
The fight back was in full swing & when Lemar rounded the keeper and slotted home after winning a ball he had no right too we were in absolute control.
Again boys I’m going to be harsh, after that we didn’t take CONTROL of the game, too many times it was given away in cheap areas, we missed wonderful chances to finish them & without them causing us to many issues going forward we managed to see the game out which ultimately was the main thing and we picked up another big THREE points.
Couple of KEY things to take away from the game.
1. FOOTWEAR, this will be the last time I address this but way too many of you are wearing moulds, this time of the year and the way the pitches are cutting up you NEED studs! Anyone slipping in moulds on Sunday will just come off the pitch, we can’t carry anyone who can’t get their footing! You included Oscar but I spoke to you about this privately!
2. DESIRE, we are in a place now where we have gone 6 unbeaten, please lads do not think you have arrived, our season has just started & we have some huge games coming up, as I said to you before I firmly believe we can still win the league but we will have to go perfect to do so.. every game is now a cup final, must win, embrace it, it’s the business end of the season!
We have built a wonderful spirit in the group & I can see how you would run through brick walls for me & Beckham but now we need to marry it all together and the work we do at training is huge, make sure you are there as competition in the squad is MASSIVE now which is healthy.
What a win lads & another tremendous come back, let’s put Maidstone to the sword on Sunday.
