Evening boys,
Hope you are well, I will send a message out for you all after the report regarding plans before Xmas but please find attached my report from Sunday’s game.
Lads mixed emotions after Sunday, think it shows how far we have come that we are dissatisfied with a point away from home against a team in second place but always feels like a missed opportunity as I don’t think we was at full tilt.
I thought the game in the first half was surprisingly flat given the importance of it, with a game of few chances, very stop start with the referee & apart from Kai’s chance at the back post I don’t remember them troubling us other than loading free kicks and corners into the big man they had the back which I felt we dealt with very well.
Bailey I thought you was the best player on the pitch first half, every time you got the ball something positive happened, it was a shame in the second half we stopped serving the wide boys to impact the game!
We took the lead when Leon went on a jinking run and won a penalty that he dispatched himself & in a game of fine margins we came in 1-0 up.
The second half again it was a strange one boys as I think our lack of quality dropping the ball in behind allowed them to gain territory into our half, way to many times it was a under hit pass or we were wasteful from deep wide areas, too many times the fullback didn’t beat the first man.
You have now seen the quality we have within the squad so it’s important we develop different ways to play, playing through the thirds and patterns from the back will be massive in the second half of the season & we now have the quality to do it, so we will be adding more strings to our bow & it’s something we will be implementing early in the new year.
The equaliser was a tremendous strike BUT again it comes from us given away a freekick where we were not set at the back & Theo has had to run 20 yards to make the foul to stop the lad going through on goal, it was the only way they were going to score & eventually if you give enough free kicks away in dangerous areas you will get punished (I spoke about this pre match!)
Upon reflection though lads if I’m totally honest I don’t think we done enough to win the game so I think a draw was a fair result in the end and it’s another point on the board & means we go into Xmas unbeaten in 4 which was the target at the beginning of this run of fixtures.
Lemar a needless booking & in all honesty you should have been sent off in the second half but luckily the ref showed some compassion, do not put us in that position again where I have to take you off before you get sent off, a learning one for you on Sunday and let your feet and scoring goals do the talking!
