Evening chaps,
Please find attached my report from Sunday’s game.
Lads that is what I would call a professional away display, poor pitch, poor decisions, poor set up but early in the season all of the above factors would have played a part in us dropping points but we are fast becoming a different animal.
I thought we started the game a little lethargic if I’m honest, sloppy in possession, not imposing ourselves physically on the game, very quiet, despite this though I could tell early on we were by far the better side and it was a matter of time before we began to turn the screw, we took the lead again through a long throw we worked on Friday, as I say in training chaps, we won’t ever get bored of playing to our strengths & Theo’s throw is a weapon, having said that the movement in the box has to be right when we win the first contact, Bailey getting across his defender and Lemar finishing on the line, proper strikers goal. Well done!
We spoke at half time in regards to Lewisham’s shape, it was 4-2-4, so the + 1 we had in midfield we should really be picking them off for fun playing between the lines & in fairness to you all the second half was a proper display, we started finding Leon in clever pockets on the half turn & as they had no organisation we took over the game and was camped in there half for long periods.
We eventually got the second with a great ball over the top from Leon & a relaxed finish again from Lemar, it’s great to see you developing in front of goal, this must continue especially in the bigger games & it’s so important you continue to listen and develop how you are.
A mention to you Billy on the goal, a wonderful defensieve header from you to turn the corner into a counter attack, you have the heart of a lion, it’s infectious, keep it up!
After that it could have been 6/7 as we final third entry after final third entry but stayed concentrated at the back.. I loved the shape of the back 4, again we done some brilliant work on this on Friday & I really saw it come in to play.
Distances from fullbacks especially in the second half with Beau and Hector were spot on & we looked SOLID, Oscar you bring a calmness to the back 4 we were massively lacking, top work chaps!
We put the icing on the cake with a well worked short corner and Bailey putting it on a plate for Max.. number 8 for the season, a tremendous return for what is considered a ‘defensive’ midfielder.
Chaps we are really starting to turn the screw & we have a HUGE game Sunday with a chance to get in the 1/4 final of the county cup so make sure you are all ready to go.
A final message that after speaking to a few of you on Sunday, some had played two games in a DAY on the Saturday..
This just wash or run lads & if you look fatigued you just won’t play, make sure you arrive on Sunday in the BEST condition you can be to impact the game.
“REST IS A SESSION”
Please remember that.
Let’s get ready to go back to work tomorrow.
