vs Dorking Wanderers Youth U12 Youth Yellow
Away league match
On a crisp Sunday morning at Meadowbank Park, Corinthian Casuals U12 faced Dorking Wanderers Youth Yellow U12 in a lively league encounter that finished 3–3 — a match that highlighted the organisation, maturity and quality of the Casuals performance.
Starting line-up (3-4-1): Albie; Alfie, Freddie, Lourenço; Leo, Archer, Harvey, Cooper; Carter.
Casuals settled quickly into their familiar shape and took the lead when Leo drove to the byline on the right and whipped a dangerous cross into the box. Dorking only half-cleared, and Carter reacted first to finish from close range in the 8th minute.
The second goal arrived in the 19th minute, a moment of real quality as Freddie struck a superb long-range direct free-kick into the top corner to make it 2–0. Just a minute later, in the 20th minute, Dorking pulled one back through a deflected effort from the edge of the area.
Casuals reacted immediately from the bench. In the 21st minute, Thomas came on for Carter, with Leo moving into the attack and Thomas taking the right flank. A minute later, in the 22nd minute, Fraser replaced Cooper on the left. The adjustment paid off. In the 26th minute, Thomas played a beautifully weighted, low through pass into space for Leo’s run. Leo let the ball roll between his legs with a clever step-over to go through one-v-one, then showed great composure to place his finish calmly into the corner.
Half-time arrived at 3–1, with Casuals in clear control and playing with confidence and inspiration across the pitch.
The second half began with Carter returning to the pitch for Archer in the 31st minute. Casuals maintained the same high level, moving the ball well and pressing intelligently, and came very close to scoring a fourth goal that could have killed the game.
Later in the half, in the 45th minute, Archer returned for Leo to add fresh presence in midfield, with Carter positioned further forward as the team continued to manage the game.
Gradually, the momentum began to shift as Dorking pushed numbers forward, adding an extra attacker and increasing the pressure. In the 51st minute, Dorking found their second goal, and in the 57th minute they found the equaliser to make it 3–3.
With around five minutes remaining, Cooper returned to the pitch in place of Fraser to add fresh legs for the closing stages.
Despite the pressure, Casuals continued battling to the very end, showing an outstanding work rate across the team and real resilience under pressure.
??? Post-Match Interviews
The manager, speaking to our reporter after the game:
“I’m incredibly proud of the boys today. Remember, this is a group of 11-year-olds competing in an U12 league. The way they listened, followed instructions and played proper football was outstanding. We had an excellent week of preparation for this match, with real focus in training, especially on our build-up play and shape out of possession. You could see that work on the pitch today. We controlled large parts of the game, showed real maturity, and dealt brilliantly with a very physical side. There’s so much to be pleased with in that performance.”
Meanwhile, on the touchline, lifelong Casuals supporter Samuel Vine had slightly stronger views:
“Referee had an absolute shocker today. Their second goal? Clear pull on the shoulder — how’s he missed that? And don’t get me started on that free-kick before the third. Never a foul. Never in a million years. I said to him, I did — ‘Ref, you must be having a laugh you @#£%&*!’ Honestly… Sunday league decisions in a proper match…”
A thrilling, hard contest and a performance the Casuals boys can be genuinely proud of as the season continues.
