vs Chipstead Youth U12 Yellow

Home league match

Corinthian Casuals U12 welcomed Chipstead Youth U12 Yellow to the Corinthian ground on a chilly November morning – and from the very first whistle it was clear who would be running the show. The 9-a-side league match, kicking off at 10:00am, ended in a resounding 9–0 victory, with the home side turning the pitch into a stage and their high press into pure theatre.

The Casuals lined up in their now well-oiled 3-4-1, a system that keeps getting sharper, especially with their new build-up play, which once again looked brilliant. Calm on the ball, switching play, and feeding the wings with confidence – it worked beautifully throughout. Albie Safarty took charge in goal, with Lourenço Afonseca on the right, Freddy Horwood central and Alfie Vine on the left. Across midfield, Leo Bradley controlled the right, Archer Edwards and Harvey O’Connor patrolled the centre, and Thomas Albuquerque worked the left. Up front, Carter Matthews led the line. On the bench waited Fraser Ross and Cooper Lund.

They didn’t have to wait long. Just two minutes in, Leo Bradley opened the scoring after a perfectly weighted assist from Harvey O’Connor. By then, the pattern of the match was already established: the Casuals’ high press was so relentless it turned every opposition goal kick into a small crisis. Chipstead simply couldn’t play out.

Fresh legs came on at the 17-minute mark – Fraser Ross for Carter and Cooper Lund for Thomas. And it paid off instantly. Just two minutes later, Cooper pounced to make it 2–0 after another smart move down the right involving Leo Bradley.

From there, the football became genuinely enjoyable to watch. The team played far better whenever they moved the ball quickly, with several brilliant through balls to the wings, stretching Chipstead and opening gaps everywhere.

Fraser Ross added the third in the 26th minute, and Archer Edwards slotted in the fourth at the 29th. By half-time, the Casuals had full control: 4–0, confident, composed, and playing some of their best team football of the season.

More tactical tweaks came at the break, and four minutes into the second half, Thomas Albuquerque – now back on the pitch – scored with a lovely header after a cross from Carter Matthews. Carter then got his own goal in the 43rd minute, finishing another move orchestrated by Harvey.

And speaking of Harvey… it really was his match. Dominant in midfield, assisting, scoring, and recycling possession with maturity. He deservedly took Player of the Match.

He also got himself on the scoresheet in the 48th minute, making it 7–0.

Carter wasn’t done either. At 53 minutes, he curled in a fantastic direct free-kick, showcasing real set-piece talent.

The final word went to Cooper Lund, who secured his brace in the 60th minute after another clever pass from Carter, sealing the comprehensive 9–0 win.

The referee had a steady performance (rated 70), and the small but loyal crowd of 25 went home thoroughly entertained.

Match Highlights

• Relentless high press that trapped Chipstead in their own half and suffocated every goal-kick.

• New build-up pattern working brilliantly – calm, structured and consistently finding midfielders and wide players.

• Team-first football: the Casuals looked strongest when moving the ball quickly, switching play and playing those sharp through balls to the wings.

A dominant, confident and exciting performance from Corinthian Casuals U12 – one that sets the bar high for the matches ahead.
