Corinthian Casuals U12 travelled to St Catherine’s Playing Fields on Sunday morning for a 9-a-side league fixture against Cheam Sports Youth U12 Colts, kicking off at 10:00am. After a demanding contest played at high tempo, the hosts secured a 4–0 victory.

The Casuals set up in a 3-4-1 formation designed to provide defensive structure while allowing width and attacking support from midfield. Albie started in goal, protected by a back three of Lourenço on the right, Freddy centrally and Alfie on the left. Across midfield, Thomas operated on the right flank, with Carter and Harvey in central roles, and Cooper providing width on the left. Leo led the attack, while Fraser was available from the bench.

Cheam began strongly and applied early pressure, finding the breakthrough in the 8th minute with a composed close-range finish that gave the home side an early advantage. The early goal allowed Cheam to settle into the match, while the Casuals worked hard to find rhythm against an organised opponent.

In the 21st minute, Fraser was introduced on the right side of midfield, replacing Thomas, as the visitors looked to bring fresh energy and stability to the flank. The remainder of the first half saw Cheam maintain territorial pressure, with the Casuals defending resolutely and looking for opportunities to counter.

At half-time, Thomas returned to the pitch, this time taking over the right defensive position from Lourenço as the team reshaped its structure for the second half.

Cheam doubled their lead in the 47th minute with a well-executed header from a corner, converting a dangerous delivery into the box. The set-piece goal increased the challenge for the Casuals, who continued to compete and reorganise defensively.

A particular highlight for the Casuals was Harvey’s performance in central midfield, showing outstanding work rate throughout the match and competing strongly in duels, winning many of the key battles for possession in the middle of the pitch.

Despite determined effort and teamwork across the pitch, Cheam maintained control of key moments in the game. Two late goals in quick succession secured the result for the home side, first from a well-struck direct free-kick and shortly afterwards from another close-range finish inside the box.

In the final minute, Fraser re-entered the match in midfield, replacing Carter, as the Casuals continued to push until the closing whistle.

While the result did not go in favour of the Casuals, the squad showed resilience and commitment against a confident Cheam side. Matches such as this provide valuable learning opportunities, strengthening both character and cohesion as the team progresses through the season.

The match was played in good spirit in front of approximately 40 spectators, with the referee managing proceedings efficiently.

The Casuals will regroup, take the positives, and prepare for the next fixture in their league campaign.
