Home cup match

Corinthian Casuals U12 hosted Laleham (Youth) FC U12 Blues at the Corinthian ground on 7 December 2025, with kick-off at 10:00am in a fiercely contested cup tie. The 60-minute match finished in a dramatic 3-3 draw, before the visitors edged the Casuals 4-3 in the deciding penalty shootout. The game was played nine-a-side, drawing a modest crowd of around 25 spectators.

Corinthian Casuals set up in a 3-4-1 formation, with Fraser Ross stepping in as goalkeeper due to the regular GK’s injury. In defence, Lourenço Afonseca played on the right, Freddy Horwood centrally, and Alfie Vine on the left. The midfield featured Leo Bradley on the right, Archer Edwards and Harvey O’Connor in the centre, and Cooper Lund on the left. Carter Matthews led the attack as the lone striker. Thomas Albuquerque began on the bench.

The match burst into life almost instantly: inside the first minute, Cooper Lund opened the scoring with a composed left-footed tap-in from close range. Laleham hit back quickly, equalising in the 7th minute with a well-struck right-footed effort from outside the area.

Barely two minutes later, Lund restored the lead with another sharp left-footed finish inside the box. The action remained end-to-end, and in the 11th minute Laleham were awarded a penalty—only for stand-in goalkeeper Fraser Ross to produce a brilliant save, diving low to his right to keep the Casuals in front. The visitors persisted and levelled again in the 16th minute with another long-range right-footed strike.

The first Casuals substitution came in the 19th minute, with Thomas Albuquerque replacing Leo Bradley on the right side of midfield. The home side continued to press and were rewarded in the 23rd minute when a goal-mouth scramble resulted in an own goal by Laleham, giving the Casuals a 3-2 lead.

In the 27th minute, Bradley returned to the pitch, this time replacing striker Carter Matthews. The hosts carried their narrow 3-2 advantage into half-time.

At the start of the second half, in the 31st minute, Carter Matthews re-entered the match, replacing Archer Edwards.

Laleham equalised again in the 36th minute via a close-range right-footed finish following another scramble in the box.

In the 40th minute, Archer Edwards returned, replacing Cooper Lund, who had to leave the field due to injury. Later, in the 50th minute, Lund came back on for Albuquerque, also as an injury substitution.

Despite the flurry of substitutions and the physical toll on players, neither team managed to find a winner in the remaining minutes. The match ended 3-3, sending the tie to a penalty shootout. Laleham narrowly prevailed 4-3, bringing a dramatic contest to its conclusion.

The referee’s display was considered modest. While not flawless, it did not overshadow the spirited effort from both teams. For the Casuals, Fraser Ross delivered a standout performance, stepping in as an emergency goalkeeper, making a superb penalty save in normal time, and showing composure throughout the match. His impact earned him Man of the Match honours.

Strong attacking contributions from Cooper Lund added further quality, but ultimately the Casuals were edged out in the lottery of penalties after a vibrant and hard-fought encounter.
