Away cup match

Solihull Moors U11LS travelled to the Glades Football Centre Pitch 3 on 19 October 2025 for a 12:30pm kick-off in a fiercely contested 9-a-side cup away match against Glades U11. The 60-minute encounter, played under the 3-4-1 formation, ended in a narrow 3-2 victory for Solihull Moors, due to great team performance all round.

Solihull Moors set up in a 3-4-1 formation, deploying three defenders at the back: Ibrahim Miah on the right, Nikhil Jogia centrally, and Connor Slayford on the left. The midfield quartet featured Luca Wadlow on the right wing, Jimmy Walters and Adin Gazibegovic occupying the central midfield roles, and Alfie Howard on the left. Adam Mayet led the line as the lone striker, supported just behind by the midfielders. Goalkeeper duties were handled by Arun Singh Binning. This setup was designed to provide defensive solidity through the back three, midfield control with four players, and attacking impetus via Mayet upfront. The substitutes available were Ruari Buckley and Colm Cleminson.

From the outset, Solihull Moors showed intent. Just two minutes in, Jimmy Walters tested the Glades goalkeeper with a shot that was well saved. Early defensive resilience was evident when Connor Slayford executed a crucial tackle in the fourth minute to prevent a clear chance. However, Ibrahim Miah’s tackle at seven minutes failed to stop an opposition move, signalling that Glades were probing the Moors’ defence.

Adam Mayet was lively in the opening exchanges, forcing a save at the tenth minute and then firing wide attempts at 13 and 15 minutes. Goalkeeper Arun Singh Binning was alert, making a vital dive at the feet of an attacker in the 12th minute to keep the scores level. Despite these efforts, Glades broke the deadlock in the 17th minute with a right-footed finish inside the box, putting the home side ahead.

Shortly after conceding, Solihull Moors made two substitutions to bolster their defensive and midfield lines. Ruari Buckley replaced right defender Ibrahim Miah at 17 minutes, while Colm Cleminson came on for central defender Nikhil Jogia a minute later. These changes appeared to steady the team as they sought to respond.

Jimmy Walters continued to push forward, firing a wide shot at 19 minutes and then forcing a parry from the Glades keeper at 20 minutes. His persistence paid off in the 21st minute when he delivered a precise cross for Luca Wadlow, who scored from close range with his right foot inside the box to level the match.

Colm Cleminson made a significant defensive contribution at 26 minutes, intercepting a dangerous pass to prevent a Glades chance. Walters again tested the keeper with a shot saved at 28 minutes before the half-time whistle blew at 30 minutes, with the score poised at 1-1.

The second half began with an offside call against Adam Mayet at 31 minutes due to a mistimed run. At the same time, Luca Wadlow was substituted off for Nikhil Jogia, signalling a tactical tweak. Solihull Moors then took the lead in the 35th minute as Adam Mayet capitalised on a long pass from Colm Cleminson, slotting home from close range with his right foot inside the box.

Cleminson continued to defend robustly, though a tackle at 38 minutes did not prevent a Glades opportunity. Another substitution followed at 41 minutes, with Ibrahim Miah returning to replace left midfielder Alfie Howard. A pivotal moment came at 42 minutes when Jimmy Walters missed a penalty, the shot saved by the Glades goalkeeper, denying Solihull Moors a chance to extend their lead.

Nikhil Jogia blocked a Glades effort at 44 minutes, preventing a clear chance and Adin working hard tracking back. At 47 minutes, Luca Wadlow returned to the field, replacing Adin Gazibegovic. Defensive solidity was maintained by Ruari Buckley, who executed a crucial tackle at 48 minutes to thwart an opposition attack.

Adam Mayet sealed his second and Solihull Moors’ advantage in the 49th minute, finishing from close range inside the box after a cross from Ibrahim Miah. Goalkeeper Arun Singh Binning remained alert, catching a shot at 52 minutes and then saving another attempt from Jimmy Walters at 53 minutes.

The final substitution saw Alfie Howard come back on for Nikhil Jogia at 55 minutes, as Solihull Moors looked to hold their lead. Glades pulled a goal back in the 58th minute, setting up a tense finale.

Despite Glades’ late pressure, Solihull Moors held firm to secure a 3-2 victory. Adam Mayet’s clinical finishing and overall influence earned him the player of the match accolade, highlighting his crucial role in this cup triumph away from home.
