Rising Sun FC lined up in a 2-1-3 formation, featuring two central defenders, a central midfielder, and a trio of forwards. Hlelo took his place in goal, tasked with organising the defence and keeping Spark FC’s attackers at bay. Spha and Lwandle formed the central defensive partnership, expected to provide solidity and initiate attacks from the back. Sphelele operated as the lone central midfielder, a pivotal role linking defence and attack while supporting both phases of play. The forward line consisted of Mpumi on the left, Ntando leading as the striker, and Ofense on the right, all charged with creating and converting chances. No substitutes were named for Rising Sun FC.
The match began disastrously for Rising Sun FC as Spark FC raced into a commanding lead. Within the first three minutes, Spark FC opened the scoring, setting the tone for a relentless early onslaught. They doubled their advantage by the 11th minute and continued to pile on the pressure with goals in the 17th, 19th (twice), 21st, and 25th minutes. By half-time, Spark FC had netted seven goals, leaving Rising Sun FC trailing heavily at 0-7.
Rising Sun FC’s response after the break was nothing short of extraordinary. Just five minutes into the second half, Lwandle reduced the deficit with a goal expertly assisted by goalkeeper Hlelo, signalling a shift in momentum. Lwandle then struck again at the 40th minute, this time set up by Spha, showcasing the defenders’ growing influence in attack. Before long, Lwandle completed his hat-trick at 44 minutes, assisted by Ofense, who was beginning to find his rhythm on the right flank.
Ofense took centre stage in the latter stages of the second half, scoring three consecutive goals. His first came at the 50th minute, assisted by Lwandle, followed by a well-timed finish at 54 minutes set up by Ntando. Ofense’s third goal at 58 minutes was created by Mpumi, who was increasingly involved in the attacking play.
Mpumi then made his mark with a hat-trick of his own, scoring at 61, 62, and 67 minutes. His first goal was assisted by Ntando, while the next two were expertly laid on by Sphelele, the central midfielder who was instrumental in orchestrating Rising Sun FC’s comeback.
Ntando, the striker, also contributed significantly to the scoring spree. He found the net at 71 minutes, 83 minutes, and 88 minutes, each time assisted by Lwandle, who proved to be a key provider throughout the second half. Ntando’s clinical finishing helped complete the remarkable turnaround.
The match ended with Rising Sun FC securing a 12-7 victory, overturning a seven-goal deficit to claim an emphatic win. The defensive resilience and attacking prowess displayed in the second half were pivotal to this outcome.
Lwandle, Sphelele, Ofense, and Mpumi were named players of the match, reflecting their outstanding contributions in both defence and attack. Rising Sun FC’s ability to regroup and dominate after a difficult start will surely boost confidence ahead of future fixtures.
