Match report by Matt Court

The form guide suggested a tough test for Plumtree in this weekends game, with Wollaton just behind us over the last 6 games. 16 were named in the week but through various drop outs 12 were assembled to try and maintain the fantastic run of form we have displayed this year. The game finally got started late as Wollaton were also struggling with numbers and waiting on players.

The opening exchanges were pretty even following a slow start by ourselves but the signs were definitely there that our chances would come. Troy right from the go was proving more than a handful for the Wollaton defence, terrorising them with his pace and skill. After carving a number of chances himself it was only fitting that he provided the assist for the opening goal. Following a quick throw in on the left, Troy picked the ball up and delivered a beautiful cross to the back post as Jon (I've suddenly thrown back the years!) Atkin was storming in to produce an unstoppable volley passed the Wollaton keeper, 1-0. Plumtree started to move into the next gear now, winning the second ball in midfield and the defence standing firm against the Wollaton strike force. Troy and Omar continued to prove to be a handful and once again Troy broke clear to square the ball across the goal, only for Omar to blast over with an open net at his beckon. (Apparently was a dodgy bobble??!! Missed that one!). It wasn't long before a long clearance from CK found it's way once again to the lively Troy and with superb control and awareness he lobbed the keeper from 20 yards, 2-0 and half time.

The second half started with Wollaton making a few changes to try and mix things up but our midfield and defence continued to match them with everything they had to throw at us. It started to turn into a bit of a scrappy affair with Wollaton attempting to foul Troy and Jonny Rowe at every given opportunity. Jonny got his own back though following a neat passing move with Duncan through the midfield, he eventually unleashed a cracking 25 yard strike which flew into the back of the net, 3-0. Wollaton made a last ditch attempt for a come back by bringing their keeper into the centre of midfield, and in fairness he did well hitting the bar from about 30 yards. Troy rounded off the victory with a trade mark run at the defence and a cool finish into the top corner, 4-0. Before the day was over, Roscoe popped up with a superb save with his face to once again keep a clean sheet. Fantastic for him to be in the right position having so little to do throughout the game.

It was evident from the side lines and listening to what the other team was saying that we are getting teams rattled boys. Wollaton although in good form really met their match today. Even though we had to make some changes, each and everyman continued to perform at a high level and was great to watch.

Man of the match for me was a joint one of Troy and Leigh. Both were superb in the jobs they had to do on the day. Well done boys, another great result. Beers Friday????!!!!
