Mile Oak Football Club travelled to Seaford Head West on 23 November 2025 for a 9:30am kick-off in a cup away fixture against Seaford Town U15 White. The tightly contested 80-minute match ended 2-2 after normal time, but Mile Oak were edged out 3-1 in the subsequent penalty shootout.
Mile Oak lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation, deploying Archie Gunn in goal. The defensive line consisted of Charlie Morton at right back, Kingsley Roussel and Will Newton as central defenders, and Olle Webb at left back. The midfield four featured Tyler Mugridge on the right, Herbie Woolin and Josh Boarer centrally, and Izac Woodward on the left. Ahead of them, Alfie Brookes-Baker operated as the attacking midfielder, supporting lone striker Tyler West. This setup was designed to provide defensive solidity through the back four, midfield control with two central players, and attacking creativity from the wide midfielders and the number 10 role. At half time, Mile Oak made a tactical change, bringing on Pip Aspey to replace central midfielder Herbie Woolin in the 41st minute. This substitution aimed to inject fresh energy into the midfield and help turn the tide. Shortly after the restart, in the 47th minute, Izac Woodward was substituted off, with an injury which put Mile Oak down to 10 players.
Mile Oak’s response came swiftly as Tyler Mugridge reduced the deficit in the 52nd minute, finishing off a move expertly set up by striker Tyler West. This goal sparked renewed belief in the visitors and shifted momentum. Another substitution followed in the 62nd minute, with Alfie Brookes-Baker making way due to another injury, which meant Mile Oak had to play the last 20 minutes with only 9.
The comeback was completed in the 71st minute when right back Charlie Morton ventured forward to score, levelling the match at 2-2. This goal was a testament to Mile Oak’s resilience and determination to salvage the game after a difficult start. Despite chances in the closing stages, neither side could find a winner, and the match proceeded to a penalty shootout.
In the shootout, Seaford Town proved more clinical, converting three penalties to Mile Oak’s solitary successful attempt, thus ending Mile Oak’s cup run. Throughout the match, central defender Kingsley Roussel stood out with a commanding performance, earning the player of the match accolade for his defensive leadership and composure under pressure.
Mile Oak showed great character to claw back from two goals down and push the game to penalties, but ultimately fell short at Seaford Head West in a hard-fought cup tie.
