Over the course of 80 minutes plus added time, Mile Oak delivered a commanding performance to secure a 5-0 victory, leaving their opponents unable to respond.
Mile Oak lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation, deploying Archie Gunn in goal to marshal the defence. The back four consisted of Josh Boarer at right back, Kingsley Roussel and Charlie Montgomery as central defenders, and Pip Aspey on the left flank. Sitting just ahead of the defence was Herbie Woolin in a holding midfield role, tasked with breaking up play and distributing the ball. Ahead of him, the midfield quartet featured Charlie Morton on the right wing, Tyler Mugridge and Will Newton occupying central attacking midfield positions, and Olle Webb on the left wing. Leading the line was striker Tyler West, expected to spearhead attacks and convert chances. The substitutes named for the match were Jude Butler, Stan Churchyard, Alfie Brookes-Baker, Izac Woodward, and Finley Howarth.
The match began with Mile Oak asserting early dominance. The breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Olle Webb confidently converted a penalty, setting the tone for the home side. Just nine minutes later, the visitors’ resistance was further tested as Tyler West capitalised on a precise assist from left back Pip Aspey to double the lead. Webb was again on the scoresheet in the 33rd minute, this time finishing off a slick move assisted by West, leaving Lindfield Juniors Rovers chasing shadows.
As the first half drew to a close, Mile Oak maintained control and went into the break with a comfortable 3-0 advantage. At half time, the manager made a tactical substitution, bringing Jude Butler on to replace Pip Aspey, signalling a desire to refresh the defensive line and maintain intensity.
Early in the second half, another change saw Stan Churchyard replace Josh Boarer at right back in the 50th minute. Mile Oak’s attacking threat remained potent, and in the 53rd minute, Tyler West added his second goal of the afternoon, extending the lead to 4-0 and effectively putting the game beyond doubt.
Further substitutions followed in the 65th minute with Alfie Brookes-Baker and Izac Woodward coming on for Tyler West and Olle Webb respectively, injecting fresh legs into the midfield and forward areas. Five minutes later, Finley Howarth replaced central defender Charlie Montgomery, reinforcing the backline as Mile Oak looked to see out the match comfortably.
The scoring was not yet finished, as Brookes-Baker made an immediate impact by netting the fifth goal in the 72nd minute, assisted by Tyler Mugridge. This goal rounded off a comprehensive team performance and capped a dominant display by Mile Oak.
Tyler West was deservedly named player of the match for his clinical finishing and overall influence on the game. Mile Oak’s 5-0 triumph was a statement of intent in the league, showcasing their attacking prowess and defensive solidity at Southwick Hill Recreation Ground.
