Home league match

Mathare United Women FC welcomed Uweza Women FC to the MYSA Headquarters on 10 November 2024 for a league encounter that kicked off at 3:00pm. The home side emerged victorious with a convincing 2-0 scoreline, showcasing their attacking prowess and solid defensive organisation throughout the match.

Mathare United deployed a 4-4-1-1 formation, which allowed them to maintain a strong defensive line while also providing ample support for their attacking plays. Mellany Achieng stood firm in goal, shielded by a back four consisting of Veronica Nyambura on the right, Brenda Atieno and Elizabeth Anyango in central defence, and Phanice Odari on the left. The midfield was anchored by Marline Atieno and Seline Achieng in central roles, with Beverlyne Awuor and Faith Atieno operating as right and left midfielders, respectively. Jerrine Adhiambo played just behind the lone striker, Iddah Adhiambo, who was tasked with leading the line and converting chances into goals.

The opening goal came in the 26th minute when Jerrine Adhiambo found the back of the net, capitalising on a short pass from Iddah Adhiambo. Positioned inside the box, Jerrine displayed excellent composure to slot the ball home with her right foot from close range, sending the home fans into raptures.

Just nine minutes later, Mathare United doubled their lead. Beverlyne Awuor scored with a powerful header, connecting perfectly with a corner delivered by Faith Atieno. The goal, also from close range, showcased Awuor's aerial prowess and further solidified Mathare's dominance in the first half.

As the teams headed into the break at 2-0, Uweza Women FC struggled to find their rhythm, while Mathare United looked confident and in control.

The second half began with an early attempt from Faith Atieno, who shot wide just a minute after the restart, indicating Mathare's intent to extend their lead. However, the match saw its first substitution in the 78th minute, with Newell Abassy coming on for Iddah Adhiambo as part of a tactical adjustment by Mathare United.

In the closing stages of the match, Judy Kwamboka replaced Jerrine Adhiambo in the 88th minute, as Mathare looked to maintain their advantage and see out the game. Despite Uweza's efforts to mount a comeback, they were unable to penetrate Mathare's resolute defence.

The referee's performance was commendable, contributing to a well-managed match that allowed the players to showcase their skills without unnecessary interruptions. As the final whistle blew, Mathare United Women FC celebrated a well-deserved victory, with Veronica Nyambura earning accolades for her outstanding performance in defence. The result not only boosts Mathare's league standing but also highlights their potential as serious contenders in the competition.
