Mathare United Women FC travelled to KPA Sports Club, Mbaraki, on 25 October 2025 for their league away fixture against Bandari Queens FC, kicking off at 1:00pm. The visitors emerged with a 2-0 victory, thanks to a commanding performance that saw them control large portions of the match and secure all three points.
Mathare United Women lined up in a 4-1-3-2 formation, deploying Valentine Khwaka in goal to marshal the defence. The back four consisted of Veronica Nyambura at right back, Mollyne Akinyi and Marline Atieno as central defenders, and Brenda Atieno on the left flank. Sharon Juma operated as the lone holding midfielder, tasked with shielding the defence and distributing the ball forward. Ahead of her, the attacking midfield trio featured Dora Achieng on the right, Sylvia Otieno centrally, and Faith Atieno on the left, all expected to link play and support the two forwards. Up front, Rachael Adhiambo occupied the right forward position with Judith Atieno leading on the left.
The match burst into life early on with Mathare United Women asserting their intent. In the 12th minute, the breakthrough came courtesy of a sublime lob from Judith Atieno. Receiving a long pass from Faith Atieno outside the box, Judith expertly controlled the ball before delicately chipping it over the Bandari Queens goalkeeper with her right foot. This early goal set the tone for the visitors, who looked confident and composed in possession.
As the first half progressed, Mathare United Women maintained their shape and discipline, with Sharon Juma providing a vital screen in midfield and the full-backs, Nyambura and Brenda Atieno, offering width and defensive solidity. Bandari Queens struggled to carve out clear chances against a well-organised defensive unit marshalled by Akinyi and Marline Atieno.
The half concluded with Mathare United Women holding a deserved 1-0 lead, reflecting their control and tactical discipline.
At the interval, Mathare United Women made two immediate tactical substitutions. Seline Achieng replaced Dora Achieng on the right wing, while Jerrine Adhiambo came on for Sylvia Otieno in the central attacking midfield role. These changes aimed to refresh the attacking impetus and maintain pressure on the home side.
Shortly after the hour mark, another tactical switch saw Mitshel Waithera come on for Rachael Adhiambo up front, signalling a desire to inject fresh legs and maintain attacking threat.
The match took a tense turn in the 67th minute when goalkeeper Valentine Khwaka was shown a yellow card for dissent by word or action. Despite this moment of frustration, Khwaka remained composed and continued to command her area effectively.
Mathare United Women doubled their advantage in the 76th minute through a near replica of the first goal. Once again, Faith Atieno delivered a precise long pass from outside the box, and Judith Atieno executed a perfectly weighted lob with her right foot to beat the goalkeeper. This second goal effectively sealed the contest and highlighted the excellent understanding between the two Atienos.
Immediately following the second goal, further tactical substitutions were made. Gladwell Musungu replaced Faith Atieno on the left attacking midfield, and Adah Okunyo came on for the match-winner Judith Atieno, allowing the team to shore up the midfield and preserve their lead.
Throughout the match, Mathare United Women demonstrated tactical maturity and clinical finishing, with Judith Atieno’s two exquisite lobbed goals earning her the well-deserved Player of the Match accolade. Bandari Queens FC were unable to respond effectively, as the visitors’ defensive organisation and midfield control stifled their attacking efforts.
In front of a modest crowd of spectators, Mathare United Women FC’s disciplined and confident display at KPA Sports Club secured a vital 2-0 away victory, boosting their league campaign with a clean sheet and a commanding performance.
