Rob Roy 2-1 Gairdoch Utd Black

In a very tight game with very few clear cut chances, the boys managed to come out on top with a strong performance, particularly in the 2nd half.

The game started really evenly with every ball keenly contested. Defences were very much on top and ours in particularly mopped up everything with little fuss.

Iain was only really tested once and he managed to comfortably save and hold on to a shot from 15 yards. It was a similar story at the other end where our opportunities came from long range strikes the best of which was Lucas who struck the underside of the bar from 20 yards out. The first half ended fairly at 0-0.

The second half saw us come out with more attacking intent and we get the deserved breakthrough when Caleb plays a good pass into Aidens feet, who turns smartly and smashes the ball into the goal from 25 yards, a stunning strike.

The goal briefly jolts the visitors into life and a few moments later they peg us back with a similarly stunning strike from 25 yards that Ryan couldn’t do anything about.

It isn’t long before we are on the front foot again and smart play out wide by Lucas H sees him cross the ball brilliantly and it finds its way to Ace who makes no mistake in tucking it home.

After this we have some more chances on the break and Lucas M had three brilliant long range efforts the best of which crashed off the cross bar.

The final 10 minutes saw us come under increased pressure but we defended brilliantly especially the back 4 and when they were breached we had Ryan to thank for an outstanding save.

The boys held out after this for a deserved victory and a real statement of what we are capable of.

Pre-season was really patchy and flat for us but as coaches we have really seen an increase in intensity from the boys in the last 7-10 days and this week training was at a brilliant level which carries into today’s game. ????

Man of the match was Nathan, he was outstanding at the back today showing controlled aggression in winning all his duels. Carried the ball out of defence on a number of occasions to relieve the pressure and was a key part of the back line who limited our opponents to mostly long shots. ??
