Home league match
Every now and then we get a performance like this, there were a number of reasons for this today in us coaches opinion, but we gave the game to the opposition.
Cringleford were well organised and had desire to win today, both lacking from our play.
So, on reflection these were some of the factors for today’s performance:
1- lack of focus on the game, too many concerned about where they should or shouldn’t play, who has what goals or assists on TeamStats.
2- lack of teamwork - point one leads to individual agendas, leading to poor decision making and not supporting each other in and out of possession
3- complacency - having beaten cringleford well before and having a good run some of the boys thought today would be easy.
We asked you all to start fast, high press and play with intensity despite what you thought of the opposition, which you did for 5 minutes, but at 2-0 down heads dropped and discipline went, leading to change of players and formation to get us back to 2-2 at half time....well done Kenzie. Start of second half they scored and heads dropped again.
In training last few weeks we have been working on ‘out of possession’ pressing as a team, winning the ball back, at training you did this well and tackled hard, today forgetting about how to press, tackle and all the things we have worked on....which for us coaches was disappointing.
No game in this league is easy if as a team you don’t focus and play your football. As a reminder, you all answered a question a few weeks ago about why you play and almost all was because you love playing football, I bet you didn’t love that today, we didn’t love watching it!
So next weekend can we forget about positions, statistics, the opposition and just get back to enjoying your football, playing for each other and winning as a team.
Thanks,
Paul and Lisa
