On 8 November 2025, Carbrain Clarets 2011’s travelled to Bent Football Park to face Scotland Boys Club 2011 Reds in a keenly contested cup away match, kicking off promptly at 1:20pm. The Clarets emerged emphatically victorious, securing a 4-1 win in the 80-minute encounter, showcasing clinical finishing and tactical discipline.

Carbrain Clarets lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation, designed to balance defensive solidity with attacking fluidity. Archie Edgar guarded the goal, supported by a back four of Ryan Cherry at right back, Zack Graham and Evan Breen as central defenders, and Noah Webb on the left flank. The midfield four featured Connor McMahon on the right wing, Kai Logan and Daniel Abdulrahman centrally, and Matthew Malone operating on the left. Just ahead of the midfield line, Ciar McCloskey played as the attacking midfielder, tasked with linking play and creating chances, while Fergus Davies led the line as the lone striker. This setup demanded wide midfielders to provide width and support the full-backs, central midfielders to control the tempo, and the attacking midfielder to supply the striker with opportunities. The substitutes available were Kobe Stevenson, Luka McVittie, Tyler Scott, and Ruadh Greene. After recent strong performances unfortunately Liam McGuire was injured during warm up and wasn’t available to play today’s match

The match’s opening goal came in the 31st minute, courtesy of a defensive blunder from the Scotland Boys Club. After relentless and persistent clarets pressure the Scotland BC defender passed back to his keeper with his right foot, resulting in an own goal that put Carbrain Clarets ahead. This early setback unsettled the home side and allowed the Clarets to increase control of the game.

Just four minutes later, Carbrain Clarets doubled their advantage. Central defender Evan Breen delivered a precise long pass into the box, finding Ciar McCloskey who expertly finished with his right foot inside the penalty area. This goal highlighted Breen’s composure and vision from the back, as well as McCloskey’s clinical attacking instincts.

The Clarets continued their momentum, and in the 38th minute, Ryan Cherry, operating from right back, launched another incisive through ball with the outside of his right foot . Fergus Davies timed his run perfectly to meet the pass and slotted home with his right foot, extending the lead to 3-0. This goal underlined the attacking intent of the Clarets’ full-backs and Davies’ poacher’s instinct in the penalty area.

With the first half winding down, the Clarets held a commanding three-goal cushion at the 40-minute mark, prompting the referee to blow for half time.

At the break, Carbrain Clarets made two tactical substitutions. Kobe Stevenson replaced Matthew Malone on the left midfield, while Luka McVittie came on for Connor McMahon on the right wing. These changes aimed to refresh the wide areas and maintain the team’s attacking threat.

The Clarets maintained their dominance, and further tactical adjustments came in the second half. At 63 minutes, Tyler Scott replaced the attacking midfielder Ciar McCloskey, followed two minutes later by Ruadh Greene coming on for striker Fergus Davies. These substitutions injected fresh energy into the side as they sought to consolidate their lead.

The fourth goal arrived in the 80th minute, with Tyler Scott finishing from close range inside the box after a well-delivered cross from Ruadh Greene. This goal was a testament to the effective substitutions and the team’s ability to maintain pressure deep into the match.

Scotland Boys Club managed a consolation goal three minutes later, in the 83rd minute, with a spectacular long-range strike from their own half. Despite the quality of this effort, it was too little too late to alter the outcome.

Most of the Clarets players were in contention however, Evan Breen’s commanding performance at the heart of defence earned him the player of the match accolade, reflecting his crucial role both defensively and in initiating attacks.

Carbrain Clarets 2011’s comprehensive 4-1 victory at Bent Football Park demonstrated their tactical maturity and clinical finishing, setting them up well for the next stage of the regional cup competition.
