The scheduled return of BOC's man down under, Oli Macmanaman, was a big draw for players past and present meaning we had a squad of 14 last night. The promise of a post match feast tucking into the finest Indian cuisine Battersea high street has to offer was probably a contributing factor too. Great to see Oli back and great to have Tris and Jamie along as well harassing the Fosters players on the pitch and then harassing Ali for free drinks in the curry house. Also back from a long absence was Neal Chettle who settled back into the team as if he'd never been away.
Stu wasn't around for ko so Phil had to pick the team that picks itself, which is not an easy job as the team doesn't actually pick itself. The 11 that were around for ko were duly organised with Tys in goal; Lambo, Punt, Neal and Sheedy at the back; midfield of Jnr, Phil, Jordan and Oli, with Tris and Ilyas up top. BOC started really well, seeing loads of the ball and creating some good chances in the first 15 mins. Against the run of play, we went behind after occasional BOCer Tony hit a spinning shot that skipped up and evaded Tyson's grasp. We were two nil down shortly after that, I think, as F&P got the upper hand for a spell. Thankfully we got a goal back before HT with Tris making a good run on the right before cutting back neatly for Jnr to convert with a simple #GAGYP finish. Lots of subs throughout but Stu, Beardsley and Jackson Flash all joined the throng during the first half or at HT.
The second half started evenly with goals for both teams, the order of which I can't really remember. I think we probably equalised first with Tris getting his the goal. Fosters hit back with a goal from a free kick curling dangerously in front of Tyson and behind the defence for one of their lads to nod home. After that we really got going again with goals flying in. Tris scored his second of the night when Stu burst forward from CB and put in a cross that was made all the better by a fosters lad slipping over. Tris made a difficult technique look easy, controlling the bouncing ball off both shins before smashing in from 8 yards. Helde's hat-trick was achieved via a helpful deflection after Phil's lay off invited him to shoot. Nailed on MOTM performance from the returning legend with an assist and three goals.
Two other goals to ice the cake: Punter smashing a free kick from our own half over the top for Jordan to chase and ultimately stab home, the other prodded through by Sheedy for Ilyas to stroke home in acres of space. Really good team performance and great to see so many old faces, hopefully more nights like that on the agenda for BOC.
