The Sussex Intra-mural League was founded in 1972 by a group of local footballers who wanted to create a more competitive and organized league for amateur players. The league started with just a few teams, but it has grown steadily over the years and now has over 100 teams competing in various divisions.
The league is affiliated to the Sussex County Football Association, which means that its teams are eligible to compete in the FA Vase and other national competitions. The league has also produced a number of players who have gone on to play professional football, including former Brighton & Hove Albion player Nicky Forster.
