The South Shields Sunday Football League is an amateur football league based in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, England. It was founded in 1922 and is affiliated to the Durham FA. The league currently has two divisions, the Premier Division and the A Division.
The South Shields Sunday Football League was founded in 1922 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The league started with just six teams, but it has grown steadily over the years and now has over 30 teams in two divisions.
The league has been home to some famous players over the years, including former England internationals Peter Beardsley and Kevin Keegan. Beardsley played for Boldon Colliery Welfare in the league in the early 1970s, while Keegan played for South Shields Juniors in the late 1960s.
The current season of the South Shields Sunday Football League is the 2023-2024 season. The Premier Division is currently being led by Boldon Shack, while the A Division is being led by Perth Green.
The league has a number of cup competitions, including the Presidents Cup, the Challenge Cup, and the League Cup. The Presidents Cup is the most prestigious cup competition in the league and is contested by the top teams in the Premier Division.
