The MFA was founded in 1983 and currently has over 100 affiliated clubs. It organizes a number of leagues and tournaments, including the MFA Super Division, the MFA Elite Division, and the MFA Youth League.
The MFA traces its roots back to the Bombay Football Association (BFA), which was founded in 1890. The BFA was the first football association in India and played a major role in the development of the sport in the country.
