The Isthmian League is an English football league featuring semi-professional and amateur clubs from London, East and South East England. The league operates four divisions, the Premier Division at Step 3 and three divisions, North, South Central and South East at Step 4 of the National League System.
The league was founded in 1905 and is named after the ancient Isthmian Games, which were held in the Isthmus of Corinth. The league's motto is "honour sufficit", which means "honour is enough".
The Isthmian League was formed on 8 March 1905 by a meeting of representatives from 12 clubs. The first season of the league consisted of just six clubs, but membership increased steadily over the years. In 1977, the league was divided into two divisions, with the Premier Division being created at the top level.
