Beechen Cliff Amateur Football League was founded in 1920 by a group of schoolboys from Beechen Cliff School. The league initially had 6 teams, but it has grown steadily over the years and now has 30 teams.

The league has been successful in developing young players. Many players who have played in the league have gone on to play professional football, including Chris Smalling, Ashley Williams, and Michael Carrick.
