About AFC Kingston

Abridged Version In 2005 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn"t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum-security stockade to the Kingston underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can take on AFC Kingston. </p> Full Version One commonly held misconception, which was seized upon by the local press, is that we are actually a bunch of cast off’s from Fulham FC’s nearby training ground. This was resoundingly ruled out after the first training session and is now filed under “Urban Myths”.</p> The crazy, yet strangely successful idea to form AFC Kingston must be attributed to one Mr Andrew Charlwood, a hardened drinker on the Kingston Pub/Club circuit, which on a number of occasions became very evident. With a Rugby background and inspired, perhaps, by Sir Clive Woodward famous switch between sports, he embarked on an illustrious football career plying his trade and earning his spurs at Red Star. After becoming disillusioned there, and unable to get a game elsewhere, the concept of starting his own team was formed.</p> After a brief diversion into a bit of friendly 5-a-side at the local “Goals” centre, to get interest up and cunningly talent spotting which of the group could kick a ball and which would be frozen out completely, the concept was persevered with.</p> It wasn’t too long until on a night out propping up a bar in Kingston, taking a break from harassing women, that the idea of starting a team was dropped into the alcohol induced free flowing conversation. Drunkenly relieved of their senses and all reminiscing of playground heroics, enough of what shall now be referred to as ‘The Team’ agreed to be part of Andy’s Dream.</p> Although the core of the team was now in place numbers were short and work colleagues, family and partners ex-boyfriends were all tapped up as potential superstars. Eventually after scouring the European market for Bosman free transfers with more prowess than Harry Redknapp AFC Kingston was born.</p> There were a few stumbles along the way, a number of players found that their last pair of boots from Little League days no longer fitted and had to splash out on new pairs, some weren’t sure if they were left or right footed (we soon realised it didn’t matter which foot they used). Others found the ball too hard, but despite such pressing matters as these we were able to convince the KDFL to let us in</p>
