Away league match

Wootton Blue Cross Youth U13 Blues faced Milton Keynes Wanderers in a league away fixture at Kents Hill Pavillion on 23 November 2025, kicking off at 9:15am. The match ended in a heavy 5-0 defeat for the Blues after 70 minutes of intense football plus added time.

Wootton Blue Cross Youth U13 Blues lined up in a traditional 4-4-2 formation, aiming to balance defensive solidity with attacking intent. Oscar Powlson took his place between the sticks as goalkeeper, protected by a back four consisting of Jack Chambers at right back, Mylo Gould and Khalil Umar as central defenders, and Freddie Fordham on the left. The midfield four featured Boris Dawson on the right wing, Lucas Gyau-Awuah and Sean Rosenkranz centrally, and Sam Quirk on the left flank. Up front, Jonas Gibbons operated on the right with Freddie Baddeley on the left, tasked with leading the line and creating chances. The substitutes available were Cassius Di Cienzo, Seth Baxter, and Harry Bonner.

From the outset, Freddie Baddeley tested the opposition defence with an early attempt that went wide in the first minute. The Blues’ defensive line was alert, with Freddie Fordham making a crucial tackle in the third minute to halt a dangerous attack. Oscar Powlson was immediately called into action, catching a cross shortly after and then producing a full-stretch save a minute later to keep the scoreline level.

Sam Quirk’s effort in the sixth minute was saved by the Wanderers’ goalkeeper, signalling Wootton’s intent to respond. However, the visitors capitalised on a defensive error in the 12th minute, with Milton Keynes Wanderers opening the scoring through a goal born from a defensive mistake. Freddie Fordham again showed his defensive commitment with a block in the 17th minute, but the Blues struggled to find their rhythm.

Lucas Gyau-Awuah’s wide attempt in the 18th minute was followed by a frantic period for Powlson, who made two vital saves in quick succession at the 20th minute mark, including a point-blank reaction stop. Tactical substitutions were made just after the 20th minute, with Harry Bonner replacing Lucas Gyau-Awuah, Cassius Di Cienzo coming on for Freddie Baddeley, and Seth Baxter taking over from Sam Quirk, signalling a shift in approach.

Cassius Di Cienzo’s shot was saved in the 22nd minute, but the Blues’ discipline began to falter as Boris Dawson committed a trip in the 23rd minute, followed by a push a minute later. The Wanderers doubled their lead in the 24th minute after a goalmouth scramble, capitalising on the Blues’ unsettled defence. Seth Baxter was booked for a handball in the 26th minute, and further fouls followed from Harry Bonner and Cassius Di Cienzo, the latter for a late tackle in the 31st minute.

The first half concluded at the 35-minute mark with the Blues trailing by two goals. Early in the second half, further changes were made: Lucas Gyau-Awuah returned to replace Sean Rosenkranz, Sam Quirk came back on for Jack Chambers, and Freddie Baddeley was reintroduced. Defensive efforts continued with Gyau-Awuah making a tackle in the 37th minute and Boris Dawson blocking an attempt a minute later.

Milton Keynes Wanderers extended their lead with a third goal in the 40th minute. A misjudgement by Boris Dawson in the 41st minute compounded the Blues’ difficulties, and Freddie Baddeley was penalised for holding in the 44th minute. Boris Dawson’s attempt on goal was saved early in the second half, as was a tackle by Gyau-Awuah in the 46th minute.

At the 53rd minute, the Blues made three substitutions: Sean Rosenkranz replaced Khalil Umar, Jonas Gibbons came on for Boris Dawson, and Jack Chambers returned for Freddie Fordham. Freddie Baddeley’s wide effort in the 59th minute was followed by the Wanderers scoring their fourth goal in the 63rd minute.

Sean Rosenkranz’s shot was saved in the 69th minute, and Oscar Powlson was again outstanding in goal, producing a point-blank reaction save and a full-stretch save in the 70th minute. Despite his heroics, the visitors netted a fifth goal in the 71st minute. Sam Quirk’s late attempt went wide as the match drew to a close.

Oscar Powlson was named player of the match for his numerous crucial saves and commanding presence in goal, which prevented an even heavier defeat. Despite the final scoreline, the Blues showed resilience and commitment throughout a tough encounter against a clinical Milton Keynes Wanderers side.
