Wing Raiders Rockets travelled to Oakley Recreation Association Sports and Social Club on 24 January 2026 for a league away match against AFC Oakley U13 Hawks, kicking off at 10:30am. In a thrilling 70-minute contest, the Rockets emerged victorious with a 5-2 scoreline, showcasing attacking prowess and tactical flexibility.
The Rockets lined up in a 3-1-4-2 formation, deploying three defenders at the back: Teddy Wheeler on the right, Jamie Scott centrally, and Guri Singh on the left. William Marshall operated as the lone central midfielder, tasked with linking defence and attack. Ahead of him, a quartet of attacking midfielders featured Michael Round on the right, Max Clay and Logan Richardson centrally, and Dylan Walsh on the left. Up front, the striking duo consisted of Oscar Harbour on the right and Oliver Nash on the left. This formation was designed to provide defensive solidity through the back three while maintaining a strong attacking presence with four midfielders supporting two forwards. The substitutes available were Benjamin Richards, William Hornsey, Teddy Champney, Aidan Dickens, and Charlie Noble.
The match burst into life early on with Logan Richardson opening the scoring in the ninth minute. Richardson capitalised on a corner expertly delivered by Michael Round, slotting the ball inside the box to give the Rockets an early lead. However, the game quickly saw a flurry of substitutions just a minute later at the tenth minute mark, with Benjamin Richards replacing Guri Singh, William Hornsey coming on for Logan Richardson, and Teddy Champney entering the fray for Oscar Harbour. This rapid reshuffle suggested a tactical adjustment or response to early match circumstances.
The changes paid immediate dividends as William Hornsey found the net three minutes later, scoring from inside the box to double the Rockets’ advantage. The substitutions continued with Aidan Dickens replacing Dylan Walsh, Charlie Noble coming on for Michael Round, and Logan Richardson returning to the pitch in place of William Marshall at the fifteenth minute. Shortly after, at the twentieth minute, Guri Singh returned to the field, substituting Teddy Wheeler.
Teddy Champney made a significant impact by scoring the third goal for the Rockets inside the box at the twenty-fifth minute. This goal was swiftly followed by further substitutions: William Marshall replaced William Hornsey, Oscar Harbour came back on for Oliver Nash, and Teddy Wheeler returned for Benjamin Richards, all around the twenty-fifth to thirtieth minute marks. Michael Round re-entered the game for Charlie Noble, Dylan Walsh replaced Aidan Dickens, and William Hornsey came on for Max Clay just before half-time.
The first half concluded at the thirty-fifth minute with the Rockets holding a commanding 3-0 lead. The second half saw continued rotation with Oscar Harbour replacing Oliver Nash again at the forty-fifth minute, and Logan Richardson returning for William Hornsey. Almost immediately after the restart, Teddy Champney struck again inside the box in the forty-sixth minute, extending the lead to 4-0.
Substitutions persisted throughout the second half, with Guri Singh replacing Teddy Wheeler and Charlie Noble coming on for Michael Round at the fiftieth minute, alongside Aidan Dickens replacing Dylan Walsh. William Hornsey returned for William Marshall at the fifty-fifth minute.
AFC Oakley U13 Hawks pulled one back from a set piece in the sixtieth minute, injecting some urgency into the match. The Rockets responded with further substitutions: Oliver Nash replaced Oscar Harbour, Teddy Wheeler came on for Benjamin Richards, and Dylan Walsh replaced Aidan Dickens. However, the Hawks struck again just two minutes later, scoring from inside the box to reduce the deficit to 4-2.
Wing Raiders Rockets continued to shuffle their squad with William Marshall replacing Guri Singh and Michael Round returning for Charlie Noble at the sixty-fifth minute. Teddy Champney completed his hat-trick with a clinical finish inside the box in the sixty-seventh minute, restoring a three-goal cushion for the visitors.
The final substitution saw Guri Singh come back on for Logan Richardson at the sixty-ninth minute, as the match edged towards its conclusion. Despite the late pressure from AFC Oakley U13 Hawks, the Rockets held firm to secure a 5-2 victory.
Jamie Scott was named player of the match for his commanding presence at the heart of the defence, providing stability and leadership throughout the game. The Rockets’ tactical approach, combined with effective use of substitutions and clinical finishing, ensured a well-earned three points on the road.
