vs The Park Tavern FC

Away cup match

After a week off Wigmore went into this Cup game with a point to prove, quiet and timid before kickoff, but as soon as the whistle blew Wigmore were up for the challenge, after some nice passages of play Wigmore found themselves two nil up inside 20 minutes, Park Tavern had no answer to Wigmore's pace on the wings and link up play from the back into the midfield. Management were very impressed as finally the team were playing as a unit and sticking to the game plan. A goalkeeper error allowed Park Tavern back into the game but Wigmore took a 2-1 lead into the break.

Some impressive football for the first 25 minutes was followed by sloppy play and needless fouls, but still the half time message was very clear, back to 2 or 3 touches use the width and limit the mistakes. Well the message was clear but what some of the team heard was "take 9 touches, turn into players, play through the centre and make even more mistakes"

Park Tavern made changes and Wigmore didn't adapt, Park Tavern were more aggressive in the second period and Wigmore shied away from the challenge, Tavern equalised but that actually sprung Wigmore into life and regained the lead moments later. Tavern then scored a couple of avoidable goals to leave Wigmore on the verge of exiting the Kent Cup and a last minute disallowed goal condemned Wigmore to a frustrating loss.

A mixed reaction after the game, some parts of the match Wigmore looked devastating and solid but sadly and all to often Wigmore didn't like adversity and players playing for themselves and not the team.

Wigmore are still looking for a complete 90 minutes of football which they have shown many times this season what they are capable of.
