Home league match

Wigmore FC hosted a Eagles Gold Team on a wet and miserable morning at Hempstead Rec, Wigmore only selecting 14 players this week, knew that rotation and team effort was required throughout the 90 minutes.

The last time these two teams met it took a last minute penalty from Wigmore to seal all three points so they knew they would be in for a tough game today.

The message was clear and simple from the managers, effort and communication, talk loads and work even harder in difficult conditions.

Wigmore lined up in the usual 4-3-3 formation and were looking to assert their dominance early on.

The team responded to the managers words as Wigmore were on the front foot from the off, winning nearly every first and second balls, it wasn't long before Wigmore created openings and in the 11th minute they broke the deadlock, a neat lay off from Kai allowed Jason to power the ball into the net, giving the home side a 1-0 advantage.

Lundie was brought on the 30th minute to allow Leon a little breather (no pun intended due to his vertical challenges that he faces) as the skipper Harley was departing at half time.

After 30 mins Wigmore looked solid defensively and in attack they created chances which should of be taken.

Brewster on the right was attacking at will, Jason, Kai and Henn were dragging their defence all around the park.

The midfield trio were winning their battles and playing killer passes and sometimes a bit too often the dangerous inside pass which was intercepted.

The back four with Zach in goal marshalled the proceedings well without any real danger from the Eagles forwards.

The whistle blew for HT, Wigmore by far the better team against 12 players (11 Eagles players and the Ref) but with the score at only 1-0 it was imperative that Wigmore set the tone early in the second half.

Spearink was brought on after some great officiating as linesman, Kai moved into the no 10 role as Harley decided it was more important to watch Arsenal.

Alp had been on the side-lines along with the other subs and Jack (who is injured again) and soon to join them, Ollie, remember him? the guy who banged his knee and has been out for months!

So the second half began, Wigmore sensed blood and knew that after last weeks result. 3 points was a must, and in the 51st minute, Lundie was fouled in the area and won a penalty, he got up, wiped the mud down his shorts (which Jason will have to wash) and calmy placed the ball into the bottom right hand corner, proving that he can actually hit the target.....

Wigmore made a couple more tactical changes but still exerted their dominance, the back line defended well despite numerous sliced clearances, Brewster, Finn, Alex and Harvey look assured and in control, even Zach made a couple of good saves even though he does appear at times as he is super glued to his goal line.

Leon and Liam in midfield marshalled well and were still winning their battles and setting the tone.

Then Wigmore decided for the next 15 minutes to play some awesome football and play a game of "who cant score a goal"...

Lundie was set up on a couple of occasion where scoring appeared simple, Henn missed a decent chance, Kai too, Liam blasted over from a corner, Harvey headed the ball straight at the keeper, Jason sold his man down the river and crossed it to the peg pinning down the net and the worst of all Jason, yes Jason somehow put the ball 2 yards wide from being 1 yard out, Albert Einstein is still trying to work out if that is actually mathematically possible.

In the 75 minute Henn finally put the game to bed after an assist from Brewster, the 'Henn Dance' much to the despair of Henn Senior on the side-lines in his white trainers.

The ref during the second period had gone from a Wigmore hater to a Wigmore fan as decisions were going in favour of the home team.

Henn made it 4-0 in the 86th minute after an assist from Leon and Kai rounded off the game with a neat finish in the 89th minute.

A special mention must go to Ben Brewster for his Man of the Match performance today, he was blistering on the right hand side, defended well and even done a fantastic impression of their player using his arms.

Zach and his defenders held firm for the teams first clean sheet of the season, the midfield again proved that on their day they can match and better any team in this league and whilst the forwards should of made it double figures today they once again proved they are the best forwards in Division 2.

Wigmore having back to back great results remain top of Div 2, the team are playing some very good football and finally learning how to manage a game for 90 mins.

There are several big games between now and Christmas and every point will have a huge impact on where Wigmore will finish this season.
