Home league match

Wigmore Wanderers FC welcomed River FC to Rainham on 4 May 2025 for a league home match that kicked off at 11:30 am. The Wanderers showcased their attacking prowess, securing a convincing 3-0 victory over their opponents, with standout performances from several players.

Wigmore Wanderers adopted a 3-4-3 formation, which allowed them to utilise their attacking talents effectively. Will Margetts took his position in goal, while a trio of defenders comprised Tom Spearink on the right, George Alp in the centre, and Harvey Edkins on the left. The midfield was anchored by Liam Apps and Dan Bailey centrally, with Ben Brewster on the right and Oli Dadson on the left, providing width and support to the forwards. Up front, Jack Downey and Ronnie Porter flanked striker James Lundie, who was tasked with leading the line. The substitutes for the match included George Hennessy, Charlie Ivey, Harry Smith, and Jack Colberson.

The match began with both teams probing for an early advantage, but it was the Wanderers who struck first. In the 16th minute, a tactical substitution saw George Hennessy replace James Lundie, while Charlie Ivey came on for Liam Apps, both changes aimed at enhancing the team's attacking options.

The breakthrough came shortly after, in the 23rd minute, when Ronnie Porter capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to slot the ball home from close range with his left foot, sending the home crowd into raptures. The Wanderers continued to press, and their efforts paid off again in the 28th minute. Ben Brewster found the net, finishing from inside the box after a clever flick assist from Jack Downey, doubling the lead and further asserting their dominance.

With the score at 2-0, the first half concluded after 30 minutes, leaving River FC with a mountain to climb. The second half saw further tactical adjustments, with Liam Apps returning to the pitch in place of George Alp, Harry Smith replacing Oli Dadson, and Jack Colberson coming on for Dan Bailey, all within the first minute of the half.

The Wanderers maintained their momentum, and in the 53rd minute, Ben Brewster struck again, scoring his second goal of the match from close range, again assisted by Jack Downey. This goal effectively sealed the fate of River FC, who struggled to find any rhythm throughout the match.

As the game progressed, James Lundie re-entered the fray, replacing Jack Downey in the 34th minute, while Downey returned to the pitch in the 49th minute, taking over from Ronnie Porter. Despite River FC's attempts to regroup, they were unable to penetrate the solid Wanderers defence, marshalled expertly by Edkins.

The referee, who performed admirably throughout the match, brought proceedings to a close, confirming a comprehensive 3-0 victory for Wigmore Wanderers FC. The result not only highlighted the Wanderers' attacking capabilities but also showcased their defensive resilience, with Edkins earning the Player of the Match accolade for his commanding performance at the back.
