Westerhope United U13 Gold hosted Morpeth Town Wasps U13 at Westerhope United Juniors Football Club on 2nd November 2025, with kick-off at 9:30am. In a pulsating 70-minute cup encounter, Westerhope emerged victorious by a narrow 3-2 margin in an 11-a-side contest.

Westerhope lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, deploying Lucas in goal to marshal the defence. The back four consisted of Daniel at right back, Jack and Riley as central defenders, and Jake operating on the left flank. In midfield, Tommy-Lee and Zak held the central midfield roles, tasked with both defensive cover and linking play. Ahead of them, Joe occupied the right attacking midfield position, Mason L played centrally behind the striker, and Luke M took up the left attacking midfield berth. Leading the line was Logan as the lone striker, expected to spearhead attacks and finish chances. The substitutes bench featured Finley, ready to provide fresh legs when called upon.

The match began with Morpeth Town Wasps striking early, taking the lead in the 11th minute. Westerhope’s defensive organisation was tested as the visitors capitalised on a momentary lapse to open the scoring.

Westerhope responded swiftly, and just ten minutes later, the home side drew level. Luke M’s clever short pass inside the box found Logan, who clinically finished to restore parity at 1-1. This goal injected belief into Westerhope’s ranks.

Shortly after, in the 19th minute, Westerhope made their first substitution with Finley replacing Joe on the right wing, aiming to add dynamism to the attacking midfield.

The momentum continued to favour Westerhope as Logan turned provider in the 27th minute, setting up Mason L with a precise short pass inside the box. Mason L made no mistake, slotting the ball home with his right foot to give Westerhope a 2-1 lead.

As the first half progressed, Westerhope made another tactical change at the 35th minute mark, bringing Joe back on for Luke M. This switch was made just before the half-time whistle, which blew with Westerhope holding a slender advantage.

The second half saw further adjustments as Luke M returned to the pitch in place of Mason L in the 53rd minute, restoring the original attacking midfield balance.

Westerhope extended their lead in the 54th minute through a spectacular long-range strike from Riley. The central defender unleashed a powerful right-footed effort that left the goalkeeper with no chance, making it 3-1 and putting Westerhope firmly in control.

However, Morpeth Town Wasps refused to lie down and pulled a goal back in the 60th minute, setting up a tense finale.

Westerhope made their final substitution in the 61st minute, with Mason L replacing Finley to bolster the midfield and maintain attacking impetus.

Despite Morpeth’s late pressure, Westerhope held on to secure a hard-fought 3-2 victory, progressing further in the cup competition.

Lucas was outstanding in goal, making crucial saves to keep Westerhope in the contest, while Jake’s defensive contributions on the left flank were vital in stifling Morpeth’s attacks. Both players were deservedly named players of the match for their influential performances.

This thrilling encounter showcased Westerhope United U13 Gold’s resilience and attacking quality, as they overcame an early setback to claim a memorable home cup win.
