Away league match
Tiki Taka Dortmund travelled to Smithills School this morning to face Turton Tigers Orange in a league away fixture that kicked off at 9:00am. The match ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw after 70 minutes of intense football, with both sides sharing the spoils in a contest full of attacking intent and defensive resilience.
Tiki Taka Dortmund lined up in their favoured 4-3-3 formation, deploying a back four consisting of Brajan Staszkowicz at right back, Archie Hunt and Lawrence Nwakamma as central defenders, and Nathen Platt on the left. In midfield, Zac Leach occupied the central role, flanked by Nikita Velicka on the right and Zac Humphries-Deveney on the left. Up front, the attacking trio featured Sonic Leung on the right wing, Favour Ajumobi leading the line as striker, and Yasin Mohammed on the left wing. The goalkeeper was Kamsy Anajemba. This setup was designed to provide width and creativity from the flanks, with midfielders expected to link play and support both defence and attack. The substitutes named for the match were Oscar Manders, Noah Rule, Andrew-Franz Nkemka, and Ayo Bamgboye.
The match began with early defensive solidity from Tiki Taka Dortmund. Archie Hunt made a crucial interception in the 3rd minute to halt a promising Turton Tigers Orange attack. Shortly after, Brajan Staszkowicz executed a well-timed tackle in the 6th minute, further demonstrating Dortmund’s early defensive discipline. The visitors took the lead in the 8th minute when Yasin Mohammed unleashed a spectacular shot from just inside the box with his left foot, following a neat short pass from Zac Humphries-Deveney. This goal set the tone for an open and exciting encounter.
Tiki Taka Dortmund continued to press, with Sonic Leung testing the opposition goalkeeper with a shot saved in the 10th minute. Kamsy Anajemba was alert in goal, comfortably catching a cross two minutes later. The first substitutions came early, with Oscar Manders replacing Nathen Platt and Noah Rule coming on for Favour Ajumobi, both changes occurring in the 15th minute. Zac Leach’s long range attempt at goal went wide two minutes later.
Nikita Velicka showed his defensive prowess with a vital tackle in the 20th minute, while Zac Humphries-Deveney created a clear chance with a through ball in the 21st minute, which Noah Rule unfortunately saw saved by the opposition keeper. Turton Tigers Orange responded swiftly, equalising inside the box in the 22nd minute to level the score. Noah had another shot saved two minutes later, keeping Dortmund in the contest.
Further substitutions followed as Andrew-Franz Nkemka replaced Nikita Velicka and Ayo Bamgboye came on for Brajan Staszkowicz in the 25th minute. Lawrence Nwakamma made a crucial tackle in the 30th minute to prevent a clear chance, while Zac Leach’s next effort drifted wide in the 32nd minute. Noah Rule continued to test the opposition keeper with another effort that was saved in the 33rd minute.
Tiki Taka Dortmund regained the lead in the 34th minute through Sonic Leung, who finished a well-worked team move with a right-footed strike following a nice passing exchange with Noah Rule. The half concluded shortly after this goal, with the scoreline reading 2-1 in favour of Dortmund.
The second half saw Kamsy Anajemba remain alert, intercepting a dangerous ball in the 38th minute. Shortly after, Nikita Velicka returned to the field, replacing Zac Humphries-Deveney, while Favour Ajumobi came back on for Sonic Leung in the 40th minute. Lawrence Nwakamma and Archie Hunt both made important defensive interventions in the early stages of the second half, with Lawrence’s tackle in the 42nd minute preventing a clear chance and Archie making a clearing header in the 43rd minute.
Kamsy was called into action again with a full-stretch save in the 49th minute, then again in the 51st minute coming out to collect a dangerous cross, keeping Dortmund’s hopes alive. The 52nd minute saw a flurry of substitutions: Brajan Staszkowicz returned for Ayo Bamgboye, Nathen Platt replaced Oscar Manders, and Zac Humphries-Deveney came back on for Zac Leach. However, Turton Tigers Orange constant pressure paid off and they found an equaliser in the 55th minute with a somewhat fortunate goal, bringing the score to 2-2.
Favour Ajumobi’s attempt went wide in 58th minute before Sonic Leung was reintroduced for Ajumobi at the hour mark. Ayo Bamgboye also replaced Yasin Mohammed at this time. Nikita Velicka intercepted a dangerous pass in the 63rd minute, and Archie Hunt blocked a chance in the 64th minute, both crucial defensive moments. Noah Rule was substituted off for Favour Ajumobi in the 65th minute, with Zac Leach returning to the pitch in place of Andrew-Franz Nkemka.
Nathen Platt made a vital tackle in the 66th minute to prevent another clear chance for the opposition, while Favour’s high attempt in the 68th minute failed to trouble the goalkeeper. The match concluded with both sides locked at 2-2, in a fiercely contested encounter.
Although Dortmund came away with a draw it wasn't one of their better performances and the lack of matches lately probably showed.
Nikita Velicka’s consistent defensive contributions and interceptions earned him the player of the match accolade, highlighting his importance today in midfield for Tiki Taka Dortmund.
Despite the draw, Dortmund showed resilience and determination in a match they struggled to really play the football they are capable of.
