Home league match

The Turf FC faced a disappointing defeat at the Delves Lane Community Association Pitch on 31 August 2025, as they succumbed to a 4-1 loss against Burnhopefield Sun Inn in their league encounter.

The Turf FC lined up in a 4-1-2-3 formation, designed to provide a solid defensive base while allowing for attacking flair. Nick Dow took his place in goal, shielded by a back four comprising Brandon Fitzgerald on the right, Nathan Sterling on the left, with Jamie Tincknell and Lewis Sullivan forming the central defensive partnership. Ian Johnstone operated as the lone central midfielder, tasked with linking defence and attack. The attacking trio featured Joe Currie on the right, Lewis Currie on the left, and Eithan Thomasson leading the line as the central striker, supported by Scott Thompson and Owen Hardy as wingers.

The opening exchanges saw Burnhopefield Sun Inn take the lead in the 10th minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse from The Turf FC. The visitors' early goal set the tone for the match, putting immediate pressure on the home side to respond.

Eithan Thomasson brought hope to The Turf FC in the 30th minute, scoring a well-placed header from a Lewis Sullivan assist. This goal momentarily lifted the spirits of the home crowd, as Thomasson showcased his aerial prowess to level the score at 1-1.

However, the second half proved to be a different story. Just five minutes after the restart, Burnhopefield Sun Inn regained the lead with their second goal, leaving The Turf FC scrambling to regain control.

In the 55th minute, The Turf FC made their first substitution, bringing on Ben Walton for Owen Hardy in an attempt to inject fresh energy into the attack. Despite this change, Burnhopefield continued to dominate, scoring their third goal in the 65th minute, further extending their advantage.

The visitors were relentless, adding a fourth goal in the 70th minute, effectively sealing the fate of The Turf FC. In response to the mounting pressure, The Turf FC made a tactical substitution, introducing Jonny Thirlaway for Jamie Tincknell, but the changes could not stem the tide of Burnhopefield's attacking onslaught.

As the match drew to a close, The Turf FC were left to reflect on a challenging performance, with Burnhopefield Sun Inn emerging as the dominant force on the day. The Turf FC will need to regroup and reassess as they look ahead to their next fixture, hoping to bounce back from this heavy defeat.
