Home league match
On 7 December 2025, The Fountain FC welcomed Swalwell Highlander Magpies First to the Delves Lane Community Association Pitch for a league encounter kicking off at 10:30am under the watchful eye of referee David Tomlinson.
The Fountain FC lined up in a 4-2-1-3 formation. Damo Freeman steps in for Andy Gowland this week between the sticks, guarded by a solid defensive back four with Brandon Fitzgerald at right back, Dan Cave and Jamie Tincknell as central defenders, and Nathan Sterling on the left. Shielding the defence were central midfielders Ian Johnstone and captain Lewis Sullivan, tasked with both breaking up play and initiating attacks. Ahead of them, Joe Currie operated as the attacking midfielder, linking midfield and attack. The forward line featured Scott Thompson on the right, Favour Ekomemen leading the line as striker, and Lewis Currie on the left, expected to provide width and goal threat.
The substitutes bench included Callum Collins, Owen Hardy, Ben Walton, Lewis Murphy, Jonny Thirlaway, and Shan Emmanuel, ready to inject fresh legs and tactical adjustments as the match unfolded.
The scoring began early when Brandon Fitzgerald unleashed a stunning screamer from outside the box in the 15th minute, brilliantly set up by a through-ball from Lewis Sullivan. This early goal set the tone for The Fountain’s dominance. Just five minutes later, Favour Ekomemen doubled the lead, finishing clinically inside the box after another precise long ball from Sullivan, showcasing the midfielder’s vision and range.
Ekomemen was again on target in the 30th minute, this time converting a long pass from Scott Thompson with a composed finish inside the box, putting The Fountain firmly in control before the break. The first half closed with The Fountain FC cruising at 3-0.
At half time, a tactical substitution saw goalkeeper Damo Freeman replaced by fresh signing Callum Collins in goal.
The second half continued in the same vein as Lewis Currie extended the lead in the 55th minute, slotting home inside the box following a long pass from Ekomemen. The visitors’ frustrations boiled over five minutes later when one of their players received a red card for a bad tackle on Dan Cave, reducing them to ten men and further easing The Fountain’s path.
Favour Ekomemen completed his hat-trick in the 65th minute with a composed solo goal, assisted by a short pass from Lewis Currie, underlining his status as the standout performer of the match. Immediately after, The Fountain made a double tactical substitution, bringing on Owen Hardy and Ben Walton for Lewis Currie and Scott Thompson respectively, maintaining their attacking impetus.
Further tactical changes followed with Lewis Murphy replacing the prolific Ekomemen in the 70th minute, and Jonny Thirlaway and Shan Emmanuel coming on for Nathan Sterling and Brandon Fitzgerald respectively at the 75-minute mark, ensuring fresh energy across the pitch.
The scoring was capped off in the 85th minute when Jamie Tincknell confidently converted a penalty, sealing a comprehensive 6-0 victory for The Fountain FC.
Favour Ekomemen’s clinical finishing and overall influence earned him the well-deserved man of the Match accolade, as The Fountain FC delivered a dominant display that will boost their league ambitions.
