Back to winning ways for Sunningdale with a convincing 3-1 win over mid table Molesey

A number of late drop outs meant that I could only select the starting line up from 10 players. As a result, despite wanting to rest myself having picked up an ankle knock in Dubai, I kitted up and trotted out for what was to be one of my more disappointing performances.

However, we started strong on what was to be quite a windy day. Steve J put us 1 up after 10 minutes with what I remember as a bullet shot which almost broke the net as it fired into the top right corner. Molesey were unsettled and we soon doubled our advantage with our new debut midfielder Nick Ashton (clearly going to be one of the fitter members of the team) who assisted from Mac (who was in great form this week) managed to volley home from the edge of the box and run back Shearer ‘esque’ with his arm raised in the classic way.

Half time came and the half time talk consisted of lots of people talking over each other whilst enjoying their M&S oranges. Memories of being 2 up against Molesey in the first game which we went on to lose started rumbling around and so we headed back out looking a little nervous.

Playing into the wind, we struggled a little to get out of our own half with both Tom’s and the new ‘Dad’ of the team, Gav putting everything into their goal kicks. With Steve Allen’s departure, looks like we’ve found a new solid centre back.

Molesey got a free kick on the edge of the box and proceeded to take it whilst the keeper and the defenders were still discussing which of them was on the post, and what was for dinner that evening – shambles !!!

However 5 minutes later, and our nimble, if somewhat portly, right winger (yours truly), managed to get a cross in, which having come off 2 or 3 defenders heads, Steve J managed to nod home to put the game out of reach of Molesey who collapsed.

Knocks were picked up by many and the team showed versatility as the formation changed half a dozen times. A great team performance by all !

3 possible games to go – 9 points will see us move nicely into mid table safety – wins are what we need !!!!
