Soccer For All (SFA) hosted Yemi FC in a pulsating friendly encounter at the University of Ibadan on 24 January 2026, kicking off promptly at 3:00pm. The home side emerged victorious with a 3-2 scoreline after a fiercely contested 90 minutes plus injury time. The match showcased attacking flair and defensive resilience from both teams, ultimately favouring SFA on their home turf.
SFA deployed a 4-1-2-3 formation, aiming to balance defensive solidity with attacking width and midfield control. Victor Abikoye guarded the goal, supported by a back four comprising Awoyemi Olaoluwa at right back, Kester Tomiwa and Chukwuemeka Ekemezie as central defenders, and Toki Tundealao on the left. Abdulsomod Kolawole operated as the lone holding midfielder, tasked with shielding the defence and recycling possession. Ahead of him, Afolabi Akangbe took up the right attacking midfield role, while Toni Nanso occupied the left attacking midfield position, both expected to supply the front three. The forward line featured Adewole Samad on the right wing, MichaelKing Oyeyemi leading the line as striker, and Akorede Obatuyi on the left wing, all charged with stretching the opposition defence and converting chances. On the bench, Eme Asuquo and Chima A were named as substitutes.
The match burst into life early on as SFA took the lead in the 9th minute. Adewole Samad delivered a precise long pass into the box, which MichaelKing Oyeyemi expertly controlled before firing a right-footed finish past the Yemi FC goalkeeper. This early goal set the tone for an open and attacking game. SFA doubled their advantage in the 25th minute through Samad himself, who unleashed a powerful left-footed strike from outside the box that left the visitors’ keeper with no chance.
Not content with a two-goal cushion, SFA extended their lead just before half-time in the 36th minute with a spectacular goal from Samad once again. This time, he scored directly from a corner kick with a curling left-footed effort that sailed into the net from outside the box, a rare and impressive feat that electrified the home crowd.
Yemi FC responded just before the break, pulling a goal back in the 45th minute to reduce the deficit to 3-1. The visitors showed resilience and threatened to turn the game around heading into the interval.
The second half began with a tactical change from SFA as Eme Asuquo replaced left back Toki Tundealao in the 51st minute, presumably to inject fresh legs and maintain defensive stability. However, Yemi FC struck again just two minutes later in the 53rd minute, narrowing the gap to 3-2 and setting up a tense finale.
SFA made a further substitution in the 55th minute, bringing on Chima A for holding midfielder Abdulsomod Kolawole, likely to shore up midfield control and help see out the remainder of the match. Despite Yemi FC’s pressure, SFA held firm and managed to preserve their slender lead until the final whistle.
The match was a showcase of attacking prowess from SFA, particularly from Adewole Samad whose two goals, including a stunning direct corner, were pivotal. MichaelKing Oyeyemi’s early strike also proved crucial in setting the tone. Defensively, the backline and goalkeeper Victor Abikoye had to withstand late pressure but ultimately succeeded.
In a competitive and entertaining friendly at the University of Ibadan, Soccer For All demonstrated their quality and tactical discipline to secure a 3-2 victory over Yemi FC. The win will surely boost confidence as they prepare for upcoming fixtures.
