Home friendly match

Ogbomo Football Club welcomed Powerhouse FC (U15) to the Uwelu Secondary School Field on 16 January 2026 for a friendly 11-a-side match, kicking off at 4:00pm. The home side emerged victorious with a 3-1 scoreline after 90 minutes plus five minutes of extra time, delighting the crowd of 150 spectators.

Ogbomo FC lined up in a classic 4-3-3 formation, designed to balance defensive solidity with attacking flair. Osasenaga Idahosa took his place between the sticks as goalkeeper, tasked with organising the backline and commanding his area. The defensive quartet consisted of Igho Uri at right back, Excel Ibeh and Goddey Ogboru as central defenders, and Favour Orhobo covering the left flank. In midfield, Richard Ola operated centrally, flanked by Osagiduwa Emorefe on the right and Donson Orumwense on the left, expected to link defence and attack while supporting wide and central areas. Upfront, the forward line featured Akoria Joseph on the right wing, Ekhigbe Favour leading the line as striker, and Wisdom Sake on the left wing, all charged with creating and converting goal-scoring opportunities. Efosa Ihaza was named among the substitutes.

The match burst into life early on as Ogbomo FC took the lead in the ninth minute. Ekhigbe Favour demonstrated his predatory instincts by finding the net, giving the hosts an early advantage and setting the tone for the encounter. Powerhouse FC responded with determination and managed to restore parity in the 17th minute, capitalising on a momentary lapse in Ogbomo’s defence to level the scores.

Despite the setback, Ogbomo FC maintained composure and continued to press forward. Their efforts bore fruit in the 35th minute when Akoria Joseph, operating from the right forward position, skilfully manoeuvred past defenders to score, restoring the home side’s lead. The first half concluded with Ogbomo FC holding a 2-1 advantage, reflecting their control and attacking intent.

The second half saw both teams striving to alter the scoreline, but it was Ogbomo FC who extended their lead late on. In the 82nd minute, Wisdom Sake, positioned on the left wing, added a third goal, effectively putting the game beyond doubt. Almost immediately after his goal, Wisdom was substituted off for Efosa Ihaza, who came on to reinforce the midfield and maintain the team’s momentum.

The match continued with intensity into added time. An unusual incident occurred when an own goal by a Powerhouse FC player further cemented Ogbomo’s dominance. Shortly after this, Ekhigbe Favour was forced off due to injury, marking the end of a highly influential performance.

Ekhigbe Favour’s contribution was pivotal throughout the match, not only opening the scoring but also leading the line with energy and precision, earning him the well-deserved Player of the Match accolade. Ogbomo FC’s 4-3-3 formation proved effective, with solid defensive work from the back four and midfielders supporting both defence and attack, while the front three consistently threatened the opposition’s goal.

In summary, Ogbomo Football Club delivered a confident and commanding display at home, overcoming a resilient Powerhouse FC side to secure a 3-1 victory in this friendly fixture. The tactical setup and individual performances combined to produce a memorable afternoon of football at Uwelu Secondary School Field.
