Newcastle Benfield Tardini u10 Sunday hosted Team Gosforth Feyenoord U10 at the Newcastle Benfield Tardini ground on 1st February 2026, with kick-off at 1:30pm. In a lively 7-a-side cup encounter lasting 50 minutes plus injury time, Newcastle Benfield Tardini emerged victorious with a 5-1 scoreline. The match was a thrilling contest marked by attacking flair that kept the momentum firmly with the home side. Newcastle Benfield Tardini lined up in a 2-3-1 formation, a setup designed to balance defensive solidity with midfield creativity and a lone striker spearheading the attack. Ollie Lattimer took his place in goal, providing a reliable last line of defence. The central defensive partnership consisted of James Rutherford and Oliver Moore. The midfield trio featured Elias Rowland on the right, Parker Buglass centrally, and Tom Slater on the left, all expected to link defence and attack while supporting both ends of the pitch. Leading the line was striker Freddie Brydon, whose role was to convert chances and apply pressure on the opposition’s defence. On the bench, substitutes Alfie Simons, Lewis Coates and Jaxson Medland awaited their opportunity to influence the game.
Newcastle Benfield pressed early from the start controlling the ball with some short passing moves. The deadlock was broken as Tom Slater drove inside and his cross took a deflection and gave Benfield the early lead. We don't do own goals, so Tom's consistency on the sideline asking if he can claim the goal stands.
Only a few minutes later and from a kick in Oliver Moore dribbled inside and hit a long range shot from 25yards out which the goalkeeper could only get a hand to as he helped it nestle into the top corner.
2-0 up after 4 minutes set the tone for how dominant a display Newcastle Benfield put on.
A kick in from the opposite side of the pitch and some short passing from Elias set James Rutherford up to extend the lead on the 11th minute to make it 3-0.
A few penalty shouts were denied by the referee, but when Team Gosforth Feyenoord went up the other end, a penalty was awarded for a shout of handball. Gosforth's striker slotted the ball home from the spot to make it 3-1.
They kept the pressure on by hitting the crossbar and forcing Ollie Lattimer into one or two key saves to keep the scoreline down.
During the first half, Lewis Coates replaced Freddie Brydon up top and caused problems for the Gosforth defenders while Jaxson Medland replaced Tom Slater.
A feisty first half ended 3-1. Benfields half time team talk was a reminder that a cleansheet in the second half would see the game through and secure a place in the cup final.
Alfie Simons came on at half time to replace Elias Rowland and kept the pressure and drive going forward.
Team Gosforth attempted to get themselves back into the game by playing 3 upfront. This allowed end to end action to start and both goalkeepers being called into action.
A few more substitutions seen Freddie Brydon come back on into the centre midfield and created a wall with the two defenders as Benfield got a hold back on the game. His Joelinton like tackles fired up the team as we looked to close the game off.
A brilliant team goal with multiple players getting involved in the passing sequence ended when Parker Buglass drove down the right wing and squared a cross that Alfie Simons tapped home from close range to extend the lead into 4-1.
Elias, Tom and Lewis all returned to the pitch during the second half to help the team see the game out. Elias Rowland ended any hope Gosforth had with a close range volley on the 46th minute.
The referee ended the game which seen Newcastle Benfield Tardini win 5-1 in the semi final and secure their slot in the Chairmans Cup final.
A special mention for player of the match Oliver Moore who along with everyone else was outstanding and vital to the team. His goal, passing and defending were contributing factors in the award, along with his fresh trim.
Managers comments: The lads were fantastic and utterly deserving. The way they have been playing of late is a thrill to watch and all of them have played a part throughout the cup run to be proud of
