The Millers march on in the Kent Trophy!

This was always going to be a tough match, we had a few influential players missing and The Oak from Medway was an unknown team.

We started ok, passing the ball around well and using the wingers. Made several chances early on but couldn’t convert. Dave and Kaylem worked very hard but balls in the air were no good to them, something we had mention before the kick-off but clearly didn’t listen.

We did have spells when the movement and passing was pure quality. We more or less walked the ball through The Oak, just the final ball or shot not quiet coming off.

We went 1-0 down against the run of play with a great strike from outside the area. We didn’t track back quick enough, which meant there was a lot of space for the forward to pick his spot (taking nothing away, it was an awesome goal).

The goal put a few heads down but we had the best of the first half chances and should have gone in ahead.

The boss again reiterated that we need to get the ball down and play balls to feet. We need to get the ball wide and not to panic on the ball.

We did have plenty of chances to get back level, most of them falling to Luke! and finishing was poor.

The Oak scored their second goal with something out of a comic book. Corner came in and nobody knew who they were marking, 4 or 5 people went up (a suspicion of hand ball by an Oak player) but the ball eventually trickled over the goal line through Ian’s legs – Very Soft Goal!!!!

The boss made a change bringing on Filmer for Dan. Filmer went into a defensive midfielder role giving Neil, Lewis and Jim more freedom to get forward.

Inspired substitution as within minutes Filmer had won the ball; Neil collected and threaded a pass through the back four to Kaylem who lobbed the keeper– great goal.

Filmer fell awkwardly under a challenge and had to go off. Turns out he had broken his collar bone and may need surgery to pin it. Sadly that looks like ending anymore football this season for Filmer. GET WELL SOON MATE.

Lee came on for Filmer and took up the same defensive midfielder role.

We were clearly on top now making lots of chances; the equaliser was bound to come soon.

Some great work from Jim to force a throw in, which Tillman launched into the area. A defensive error gave Jim an easy tap in to level.

The Oak were not up for it after the equalizer, the heads went down and there was only going to be one winner.

The winning goal came from a throw in from Mike which was deflected to Dave on the edge of the area. Dave struck the ball well and scored (may have taken a deflection but a good goal)

We had a few more chances to put the game to bed but I think we were all feeling the effects of not playing for a few weeks.

We still have a 100% record (unknown for Millfield) but looks like our last game before the xmas break. So have a great xmas if I don’t see you before. Let’s come back and continue this great run and win some silverware.

Well done to everyone, you have all played your part in this impressive run. HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!
