Home league match

On Sunday 26 October 2025, Lads Club Juniors U12 hosted Minster Lions U12 at Widemarsh Common Mini Soccer for a 9-a-side league encounter, kicking off promptly at 10:33am. The home side emerged victorious with a 2-0 scoreline after a competitive 60-minute fixture, pleasing the 44 spectators in attendance.

Lads Club Juniors lined up in a 3-4-1 formation, deploying three defenders at the back: Archie Rigby on the right, Louis Howells centrally, and Charlie Clueit on the left. Their midfield quartet consisted of Thomi Scoular on the right wing, Flynn Gething and Zayn Prosser occupying the central midfield roles, and Charlie Arnold on the left. Oscar Jones led the line as the lone striker, tasked with spearheading attacks and linking play. Lucas Price guarded the goal, providing a solid last line of defence. The substitutes available were Musa Touray, Mali Lewis, Finn Jones, and new signing Joseph Lee.

The match began with Lads Club Juniors eager to assert themselves. Early on, Zayn Prosser attempted a shot in the eighth minute but it went wide, signalling the team’s attacking intent. Minutes later, defensive solidity was demonstrated as Charlie Clueit intercepted a dangerous pass in the ninth minute, halting a Minster Lions move. Archie Rigby followed up with a well-timed tackle three minutes later, showcasing the home side’s defensive discipline.

In the 15th minute, Thomi Scoular delivered a long key pass that created a clear chance, which was promptly followed by attempts on goal from Charlie Arnold and Oscar Jones, both of which were saved by the Minster Lions goalkeeper. At this point, Lads Club Juniors made a flurry of substitutions: Musa Touray replaced Thomi Scoular, Mali Lewis came on for Charlie Clueit, Finn Jones took over from Flynn Gething, and the new signing Joseph Lee replaced Oscar Jones, signalling a tactical refresh.

Archie Rigby tested the opposition keeper with a free kick shot that was saved in the 25th minute. The breakthrough came swiftly in the 26th minute when Joseph Lee scored on his debut from a cross come shot that beat the keeper at his near post, giving Lads Club Juniors a deserved lead just before the half-hour mark. The first half concluded at 30 minutes with Lads Club Juniors holding a 1-0 advantage.

The second half saw Oscar Jones return to the pitch, replacing Musa Touray immediately after the break. Oscar Jones quickly made an impact with a key pass in the 31st minute that created another chance, although Joseph Lee’s subsequent attempt went over the bar. Both Oscar Jones and Mali Lewis were caught offside in the 33rd minute, both due to mistimed runs, highlighting Minster Lions’ defensive awareness.

Mali Lewis then produced a slide rule pass in the 36th minute that carved open the defence and created a further opportunity. Controversy arose in the 39th minute when Oscar Jones was flagged offside, a decision that appeared incorrect. Oscar Jones then had a shot saved in the 40th minute, while Archie Rigby’s effort went high shortly after. Oscar Jones was replaced in the 45th minute by Musa Touray.

Thomi Scoular was twice caught offside in the late stages of the match, at 47 and 49 minutes, the former due to a mistimed run and the latter a result of good defending. Joseph Lee’s shot was saved in the 52nd minute, and shortly after, Charlie Clueit returned to the field, replacing Musa Touray at 53 minutes.

The second goal arrived in the 54th minute when Joseph Lee provided a pass into the box for Thomi Scoular to finish with his right foot, as the keeper fumbled doubling Lads Club Juniors’ lead. Unfortunately, Louis Howells was forced off injured at the same time, with Musa Touray coming on as his replacement. Mali Lewis re-entered the fray at 58 minutes, substituting Joseph Lee.

In the closing stages, Charlie Clueit made a crucial clearance in the 60th minute to prevent a Minster Lions chance, ensuring the clean sheet for goalkeeper Lucas Price. The match concluded with Lads Club Juniors U12 securing a confident 2-0 victory, demonstrating effective teamwork, tactical flexibility, and solid defending throughout.
