Match Report:
KVFC travelled away to Ashcott this week in the first round of the Somerset cup. After last weeks loss to Uphill, Valley were looking to get there first win of the season.
Valley had started well with good pressure on the ball however it was Ashcott who took the lead when a long ball over the top allowed the winger to get in behind putting a teasing ball into the box. The ball fell kindly to the Ashcott striker who tucked it away giving Ashcott a 1-0 lead. It wasn't long before Valley were back in the game. A corner from the left whipped in by Ryan Mogg found Andy Vowles in the box who scored from 2 yards.
It wasn't long before Valley had a second when a long flighted free kick into the box from Olly Beesley was fumbled by the keeper & Ben Stanley tucked the ball away. That was not the end of the goals for the first half when 2 minutes from half time a long throw into the box from Ashcott found The striker who headed into the corner of the net.
Half Time:
Ashcott 2 - 2 KVFC
It was a hard fought second half with both teams looking to win the game. Some great defending & attacking from both teams really sparked the game into life. Valley had a great chance to take the lead when a ball swung into the box by Mogg on the left hand side found Dan Andrews who's glancing headed was well saved by the Ashcott Keeper. Only 5 minutes later & there was another chance for Andrews when a lovely chipped ball into the box fell awkwardly at Andrews feet. Unable to generate any real power the on rushing keeper smothered the ball & made the save.
It was Valley who took the initiative when Andrews ball into Zach Michell on the right was helped on to Stanley, he twisted away from the defender & a lazy leg brought down Stanley for a penalty to Valley. His second in a week & he was able to tuck the ball away & into the corner away from the keepers reach.
5 minutes from the end of the game & it was well and truly over when a fast break down the right saw Michell running past the defence, playing a nice square ball into Stanley for his hat trick.
A well seen out game from Valley today & a good first win of the season.
A-Y-S cleaning MOTM - Andy Vowles with a special mention to Ben Stanley who played a great game.
