Home league match

<p>Horndean played their final home game of the season against Horndean whites on Thursday night in a floodlit fixture at Five heads park.

The last encounter between the 2 sides saw a comfortable win for the reds, but the whites would be out to prove a point in this fixture and a tougher match was expected.

The game kicked off and the match had a real derby feel about it with the whites working hard and pressing the reds at every opportunity. On a really difficult pitch Horndean played some excellent football despite their opponents attentions.

The game remained goal less until 10 minutes before half time until Matt Cotton pulled out a great dipping volley from 20 yards to open the scoring. No more than the reds play deserved and a blow to all the whites considerable efforts.

On the stroke of half time Horndean moved into a 2 goal lead this time from a set piece. A nicely weighted Max Wilson free kick was met well by Ben Lucas to double the reds advantage.

The second half began in the same vein with the whites working hard to stop any rhythm into the Reds play. The Reds though were in good form and produced an impressive display of passing football. Ten minutes into the second half, Horndean killed off the match with a well worked 3rd goal after good work from Jack Farrow found Joe Nash in the box to finish neatly.

With Ben Lucas and Connor Shelton cutting out any threats at the other end, the Reds scored a 4th and what a goal. Great play through the middle saw Max Wilson in space. A great ball in the channel found the marauding Matt Cotton in behind the full left back. Matt cut the ball back for Max on the edge of the box to whip a beautiful dipping first time strike over the stranded whites keeper. Goal of the season !!

The night and the Reds superb performance was complete with a Jack Grover finish after more good work from the impressive Matt Cotton.

Final score.

Managers view:

Extremely pleased with the players application. After a big win against the whites last time out it would have been easy for the boys to slip into a lapse attitude, but this was anything but. Great concentration and focus from everyone from start to finish.

Some excellent play on a bad surface, backed up with some very good goals. Defensively sound also with Ben Lucas & Connor Shelton commanding in the Central defensive positions..
