vs SEAHAM MARLBOROUGH
Home cup match

Progressing to the second round of the Tommy Burrell Cup proved very difficult against a well organised Seaham Marlborough team. Horden took a ten minute lead when a delightful cutting pass from Steven Monaghan set up Jack Pounder who comfortably beat the opposition 'keeper 1-0. Once again a number of missed chances dogged the home side and Horden were let off on 34 minutes when a Marlborough goal looked certain. Somehow 'Man Of The Match' John Bowes managed to get back and deflect the ball off the line and over the top. Half time 1-0

With Pounder having to leave the pitch Jonathan Monaghan was introduced. Horden doubled their lead on 55 minutes when Aaron Coulson made a dazzling run in the 18 yard box and was eventually brought down. The resulting free kick was expertly despatched by Ricky Ramsay, firing into the top corner 2-0. The introduction of the Davidson Brothers on 65 minutes replacing Ramsay and Coulson but 5 minutes later an injury to Kieran Thompson resulted in Coulson returning to the field of play. These changes appeared to unsettle the Horden team and Seaham Marlborough capitalised with two goals in as many minutes 2-2. The home side were looking a little ragged and extra time certainly looked the most likely. However, never put a good team down and Horden got the winner on 87 minutes with Coulson, in a crowded 18 yard box, managed to lay the ball off for super sub Andrew Davidson to fire in the winner from 6 yards and book a place for the Supporters in the next round.
