Heddon made it through to the quarter finals of the minor cup with a battling 2-1 victory over Monkseaton.

With several players missing a change of formation was needed and Dave Green lined up with what some thought may be similar to a Mike Bassett Christmas pudding.

On a poor playing surface the words spoken in 'captains corner' were correct as the game proved a difficult encounter for Heddon from the kick off.

Monkseaton took the lead after Bull failed to claim a cross that seemed to hang in the air for an eternity.

In a game full of meaty challenges Heddon equalised late into the first half a Hownam corner nodded towards goal by Scoob was shanked by Ross only for their defender to save his blushes putting ball into his own net 1-1.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first half a lot of possession from Heddon but lacking that killer instinct.

It took a massive stroke of luck to put Heddon 2-1 up.Cross Bailey shanked another one wrong footing the goalkeeper.

There was time for another Sean Hownam dive, a GeordieJox dubious off side call and a Jurgen Green embrace with MOTM Cross Bailey.

Dave 'Mam' Green even resisted the temptation to utilise former Northern League player come CB Phil Edmondson who offered to go in at CB and sure things up.

n.b. the formation we played didnt even exist in the list of options on this site! Keiran and Greeny are the Houllier/Evans tandum of the Hexham district league!

From a managers perspective, every single player put in a shift today and it was only the quality of the pitch today that stopped us winning by more. I like how we dominated posession against a good team and liked how we killed the game off. We looked solid as a team and attacked looking dangerous, especially when space opened up in the second half! Well done!
