Well, what a performance!!
Hampton started the game brightly and soon made the breakthrough when Oscar slid Zak R through, and “Rushy” made no mistake when slotting home.
No stopping there though, Hampton forced a corner that Oscar delivered, causing a bit of panic but not for Captain Ollie who was on hand to rifle home and put us 2-0 up.
This game was far from over though, as we were soon to find out.
A “phantom” goal given by the ref gave Rubery the boost they needed, I’m still not convinced by that one and the “Hampton Wall” can consider themselves unlucky to conceded that one.
A real set-back then happened, when captain Ollie, committed as ever, got hurt in a challenge and we lost him for the rest of the game just before half-time. We all hope Ollie will be ok after some rest, because he’s obviously a key ingredient in this Hampton side.
Half-time saw us go in 2-1 up, but this game was far from over.
We had words, and due to the high levels of some of the performances this season, we demanded more because this game could slip from our grasp.
Rushy went out in the second half as our captain, and boy did we need him.
We soon found ourselves 3-2 down, seemingly panicking and inviting the pressure, when all we needed to do was play our game.
This is when the air turned red (and I’m not talking about our vocal linesman and opposition parents!! ??) because these boys had more to give and it showed.
Sleeves were rolled up, challenges were being put in all over the pitch, Kielan, JP, absolutely brilliant lads. This gave us the lift we needed and we were soon level, Oscar sticking a free-kick in the box where Harry flicked on a well-deserved goal… GAME ON!
Up stepped Fin, who drove down the right hand side and cut in, only to be hacked down and present a shooting opportunity for Hampton with a free kick.
Rushy, in no rush whatsoever, calmly stepped over the ball and unleashed and absolute whopper into the top corner… absolute scenes for the lads!!
Rubery almost got through to grab a last-minute equaliser when their top scorer was set free after a mix-up, but JP recovered like a prime Bobby Moore, brushed the kid aside and cleared his lines.
Magnificent, 4-3 victory and well-deserved celebrations after an absolute war on the pitch.
MOTM today could’ve gone to any of the 12 boys, but Oscar pipped everyone to the post with 3 assists and an all-round performance in the middle, well done Oscar!
Rushy now has 10 in 5 games, what a threat this boy is in front of goal.
Keep up the good work, UP THE REDS!!
