Home league match

Today we welcomed unbeaten Hollywood to Field Lane, hoping to stretch our winning streak to 3 games, but missing talisman Rushy.

A lively start to the game saw Hollywood take the lead with a great header from a corner.

Hampton were up for this one though and would be unlucky not to score, with Fin & Omar causing all sorts of problems for the Hollywood defence. Actually I felt Hollywood got away with a potential red card, with Fin clean through on goal and the defender wiping him out. I think if that was 5 yards closer, the ref would’ve had no choice.

From the resulting free kick, JP went close but just over the bar.

Fin got through again only for the keeper to save, then against the run of play a mis-hit cross found its way to the back post for a Hollywood tap-in, with Hampton switching off for a split second and unfortunately found ourselves 0-2 down.

Omar managed to break through on the left again and another late hack from the defender (which he got away with again) couldn’t stop Omar (although he probably could’ve gone down) but the keeper was again their hero as the shot was saved.

Still plenty in this game, HT 0-2.

Hampton came out of the blocks with energy in the second half and won a penalty which Omar slotted away somewhat fortunately. Not the best penalty he’ll ever take but it hit the net which is the most important thing!

1-2.

Hampton once again switched off though, allowing the midfielder to get to the byline and cross for another tap-in. Those 2 goals were very disappointing today.

1-3.

Hampton would not give up here without a fight, and a quite brilliant ball from JP sent Fin clear and he prodded it past the on-rushing keeper, 2-3 and game-on!

A poor decision from the ref gave Hollywood a penalty. From where I was standing, the “foul” was outside the box and the player dived into the box.

SAVED!! Harrison getting low to his left to keep hold of the pen and keep us alive in this game.

The lads smelt blood and were battling for everything. Almost an equaliser when a scramble in the box saw us have 3 or 4 efforts that were somehow saved and blocked. Not sure how we didn’t score there.

Another poor decision from the ref when Sanders appeared to get the ball ahead of the attacker, but went to ground and another penalty was awarded.

A different taker this time, but the same outcome… SAVED AGAIN!! Harrison standing tall to keep hold of the ball in the centre of goal.

Could Hampton snatch a deserved point from the game?? The last chance would fall to JP, a free kick 20 yards out, centre of goal.

Good hit, but saved by the keeper who parried it out wide and the ref blew his whistle for full time, 2-3.

A brilliant game played in good spirit by both sides, unfortunate that there was a loser as nobody deserved to lose that game, least of all Hampton as we had the better/most chances and they were really kept in it by their keeper. Likewise for us to be fair as Harrison has saved 2 pens and made light-work of any shots Hollywood had.

A terrific squad performance today, with EVERY player playing their part in a great game. Notable performances coming from Kielan & JP (how he hasn’t scored today is beyond me) Josh P, Oscar & Omar (who notched his 5th goal of the season in the race for the golden boot), and Harrison who was bloody brilliant (couldn’t do anything about the 3 goals but some performance when saving not one but TWO pens!!).

MOTM this week though went to the terrific FIN, who really stepped up today and got his goal, certainly deserved more from today, well done Fin!

Couldn’t be prouder of the boys, COMPETE is the aim, and that’s what we’re doing.

Onto next week where we welcome Sutton Town to Field lane for another ding dong.

UP THE REDS
