Away cup match
After a month off, we returned to action where we last played, Boldmere, but this time in the divisional cup.
With Harrison still out, George stepped up without hesitation, fair play to the lad.
After a bright start from Hampton, we conceded the first of 3 penalties, when George was judged to have brought their attacker down in the box. Unfortunate in my opinion as 5 minutes later the same scenario happened again, only this time George got to the ball first and their player followed through on George, only for no free kick to be given. The pen was dispatched and we were 1-0 down.
That knocked the wind out of us a bit, as they hadn’t threatened our goal yet, and they were soon 2-0 up when their player found himself in space with all the time in the world to smash home. We had a couple of chances of our own with Rushy unlucky not to find the top corner, and Fin flashing one across the box but nobody there to smash it home. We found ourselves 3-0 down when Boldmere hit a nice strike, and then the ref awarded their 2nd pen of the day when Josh P was judged to have handled in the area, but in my opinion he was blocking his face. Very soft.
Justice was done though when the striker hit the pen wide.
Half time, 3-0 down, we needed a wake up call.
Some early pressure in the second half paid off, when Zak D won the ball in the middle and knocked it over to the right hand side, where Ollie charged forward and drove into the box to rifle home. GAME ON!
Another nice move where Rushy played Ollie through and the ball was put across the box for Oscar to tap home, only for the keeper to be right place right time and it was caught, to everyone’s amazement.
Moment of the match then came for Boldmere, and it was the game killer really, when their player lashed home from 25 yards right into the top corner. No chance for George, all we could do was applaud that one.
We weren’t done yet… JP put a lovely ball over the top for Fin who flicked it past the keeper, 4-2 and still
In the game with 15 left.
But no, it wouldn’t be our day, another dubious pen decision, which was dispatched again, 5-2.
Still time for Rushy to get on the scoresheet, when Josh M put him through and Rushy finished smartly past the on-rushing keeper who fouled him in the process.
Game over, 5-3.
Cannot fault the effort at all, we were just our own worst enemy at times, when we allowed them to dominate in the middle of the park on goal kicks from both sides, something to work on at training.
Special mention to Josh M, super effort today, and also Zach S and Josh P, they put some real bone-crunching tackles in today!
Man of the match rightly awarded to Kielan for his all-action display in a couple of positions, well done Kielan!
I can see improvements all over the place and with Jack & Harrison due to return, we’re only going to get stronger!
Up the reds ??
