Home league match

Today we welcomed Sutton Town to Hampton, renewing a rivalry from our first season together in division 6, where they blitzed the league and moved up to division 4. Since then, they have remained in division 4 and we have progressed to eventually join them, ding dong.

Early signs weren’t great for Hampton, with Sutton on the charge and the Reds looking like we didn’t like the rain!

Sutton had an early shot that was tipped wide by Harrison.

The game did settle then, with the Reds realising they had no choice but to get wet, started attacking. When Harrison gathered and pumped one to the right wing, a mistake from the defender allowed Rushy space to run into and there was only one outcome, a nice finish across the keeper in-off the far post. 1-0.

Sutton struggled to break the defensive line in the first half, with the Reds well in control.

They did get through when their pacy winger decided to go on a run and was almost rewarded for his bravery and desire, only one problem for him though, HARRISON! He came crashing out and gathered the ball, lifting the player in the process. Unfortunately the player limped off after that challenge.

A cracking ball from JP set Fin free, but he took on the shot a little too early and the keeper saved comfortably.

HT 1-0.

The Reds were in the mood today and working hard all over the pitch. Sutton had some big lads and were actually knocking the ball around nicely, showing some good skills, but every time they managed to get close to our box, one of the defenders was on hand to break down the attack.

The second goal would come when Bailee set Rushy free down the left and his cross bounced off the head of the defender, then the keeper mis-judged and it bounced over him, with Harry on-hand to notch his 3rd goal in 4 games since starting the season in goal ?? 2-0.

Both teams scrapping away in the rain then, with Hampton looking to keep our first clean sheet of the season and looking good for another win.

Victory would be sealed when some good work and a good strike from Omar was parried by the keeper and Rushy was on-hand to smash home.

3-0.

Within two minutes it was 4-0, when Charlie pushed the ball wide to Omar who burst through and slotted past the keeper to keep Rushy (5) at arms reach with his 6th goal of the season ??.

Final score, 4-0.

Superb performances all over the pitch today, with Rushy and Omar the driving force from an attacking perspective.

However the plaudits go to the defensive unit today with Harrison, JP, Sanders, Callan and the awesome Kielan deservedly scoring a shut-out and they really should pat themselves on the back after a tremendous display.

Today’s MOTM is also part of that defensive unit of course, with some superb composure on the ball and full of desire and effort, summed up with a great tackle late in the second half and he also had a hand in one of the goals, well done BAILEE.

Very pleasing (and wet) afternoon and the boys are doing themselves proud so far this season.

Another home game next week against Chelmsley, who will be looking for some revenge!
