Home league match
On 7th September 2025, Green Buffaloes Women FC hosted ZESCO NDOLA GIRLS at Reiz Stadium in a keenly contested league encounter that kicked off at 11:00am. The home side emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win, securing all three points in front of a crowd of 3,400 spectators. Referee Theresa oversaw the 90 minutes plus added time with a commendable performance.
Green Buffaloes Women FC lined up in a classic 4-3-3 formation, deploying Ngambo Musole in goal to marshal the defence. The back four consisted of Diana Banda at right back, Memory Nthala and Esther Banda as central defenders, and Martha Banda on the left flank. In midfield, Maweta Chilenga operated on the right, Joana Benaya held the central midfield role, while Natasha Nanyangwe took up the left midfield position. Up front, the attacking trio featured Beatrice Fwamba on the right wing, Namute Chileshe leading the line as striker, and Agness Phiri on the left wing. The substitutes available were Evarine Katongo and Nana Malanda.
The 4-3-3 setup was designed to provide width and attacking impetus from the flanks, with Chilenga and Nanyangwe expected to support both defence and attack. The central midfield anchor, Benaya, was tasked with controlling the tempo and linking play, while the back four aimed to maintain solidity against ZESCO NDOLA GIRLS’ forward threats.
The match began with intensity, but it was Green Buffaloes who first drew attention when Maweta Chilenga received a yellow card in the 21st minute for a late challenge, signalling the physical nature of the contest. Tactical adjustments followed as Green Buffaloes made their first substitution in the 35th minute, with Evarine Katongo replacing Namute Chileshe up front, perhaps to inject fresh energy and alter attacking dynamics.
Shortly after the change, Beatrice Fwamba tested the opposition goalkeeper with a high attempt in the 36th minute, though the effort sailed over the bar. As the first half drew to a close, Agness Phiri came close to breaking the deadlock with a shot that was well saved by the ZESCO keeper in the 44th minute. Despite these chances, the half ended goalless, with both sides locked in a tactical stalemate.
The second half saw Green Buffaloes’ goalkeeper Ngambo Musole produce a crucial point-blank reaction save in the 57th minute, denying ZESCO NDOLA GIRLS a clear opportunity and keeping her side in the lead contention. The home side made their second substitution in the 70th minute, bringing on Nana Malanda for Beatrice Fwamba to refresh the attacking line.
The breakthrough finally arrived late in the game. In the 88th minute, Natasha Nanyangwe rose to meet a long pass delivered by Agness Phiri from a set piece situation. Nanyangwe’s close-range header found the back of the net, sparking celebrations and ultimately deciding the match in Green Buffaloes’ favour.
Esther Banda’s composed and commanding performance at the heart of defence earned her the Player of the Match accolade, as she helped maintain a clean sheet and thwarted numerous ZESCO NDOLA GIRLS attacks. The victory at Reiz Stadium was a testament to Green Buffaloes Women FC’s resilience and tactical discipline, securing a vital three points in the league campaign.
