Home league match

Glebe U9 Jaguars recorded a hard-fought 5–4 victory over Coulsdon Athletic in a 7-a-side league fixture played at Chislehurst on 1 February 2026, kicking off at 11:15am and contested over 60 mins.

Glebe made a positive start and opened the scoring in the 7th minute, when Alex Walsh finished confidently following an assist from Ben Insall, who was already beginning what turned into a very busy morning. Ben registered an attempt of his own shortly afterwards as Glebe continued to press.

The Jaguars doubled their lead in the 12th minute, with Winston Goody converting after another assist from Ben Insall, who by this point appeared to have adopted the role of chief creator. Substitutions followed, with Chen replacing Martin and Mikey coming on for Brown, allowing Glebe to maintain energy and structure.

Glebe continued to create chances, with George Mansell testing his luck from distance in the 15th minute, followed by an effort from Chen two minutes later. The pressure paid off again in the 18th minute, when Alex Walsh scored his second goal of the match, once again assisted by Ben Insall, who was in no mood to share the ball with the opposition.

Coulsdon Athletic responded in the 20th minute, pulling a goal back, and despite further Glebe pressure, including another effort from George Mansell (24’), the visitors reduced the deficit further in the 33rd minute, making it 3–2.

Early changes were made in the latter stages, with Wins replacing Martin and Alex coming on for Chen. Coulsdon then levelled the match in the 46th minute, setting up a tense finish and briefly testing the collective nerves of players, coaches, and parents alike.

Glebe responded immediately. In the 47th minute, Freddie Brown restored the lead after being picked out by Ben Insall, completing a personal double act that included both defending and goal-scoring duties. One minute later, George Mansell extended Glebe’s lead with a well-struck long-range effort, leaving the goalkeeper with little chance and the spectators with plenty to talk about.

Coulsdon Athletic scored again late in the match following a cheeky handball conceded by Brown. Despite this, Glebe remained composed and defended well in the closing stages to secure the win.

All players contributed to a solid and determined team performance, showing resilience and teamwork throughout. Lewis was missed, but the boys ensured they played with his spirit firmly in mind. Despite his brief involvement in both goals and controversy, Freddie Brown was deservedly named Man of the Match, proving that even the best mornings can include the occasional plot twist.

A competitive and entertaining fixture, with Glebe U9 Jaguars showing commitment and character to claim a well-earned victory.
